POSITION SUMMARY:
The WIC Clerk is responsible for implementing WIC certification and recertification procedures, record keeping, voucher issuance, and assisting the dietitian. The WIC Clerk reports to Clerical Coordinator, WIC Coordinator, or Dietitian.
SPECIFIC DUTIES:
Interview WIC applicants for demographics, income eligibility, and risk factors
Document in applicant record information about WIC applicants
Complete and review computer forms and/or data entry into computer
Notify WIC applicants of eligibility, voucher pick-up, etc.
Record keeping and filing
Assist Dietitian and Nutrition Aide with review of forms, and nutrition education
Provide translation to staff and participants as needed, and other duties as assigned
Attend Staff meetings as assigned
Teach enrollment
Refers all breastfeeding related inquires to Breastfeeding Specialist
Check in breast pumps returned by WIC Participants
Promote and make breastfeeding lounge accessible to breastfeeding WIC participants
Promote and make breastfeeding as the norm to all pregnant and postpartum WIC participants and their families
Travel to different sites as needed
Performs other job duties as assigned
Qualifications
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:
High school graduate or equivalent
Experience in clinical setting preferred
Knowledge and understanding of the Hispanic culture
Bilingual in Spanish and English; written and verbal
Type 35 w.p.m.; applicant to furnish typing certificate
Valid California Driver's License, proof of insurance and personal transportation
PERFORMANCE REQUIREMENTS:
Knowledge of modern office procedures, practices and equipment
Knowledge and understanding of the Hispanic culture
Ability to prioritize and organize
Ability to file alphabetically and/or numerically
Ability to document information in files in an efficient and professional manner
Ability to translate for staff and participants into appropriate language
Ability to communicate clearly
Skill in establishing and maintaining effective working relationships with employees and public
TYPICAL PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
Work may require sitting or standing for long periods of time; also stooping, bending and stretching for files and supplies. Occasionally lifting files or paper weighing up to 35 pounds.
Requires manual dexterity sufficient to operate a keyboard, calculator, telephone, copier and such other office equipment as necessary. Vision must be correctable to 20/40 and hearing must be in the normal range for telephone contacts. the normal range for telephone contacts. It is necessary to view and type on computer screens for long periods and to work in an environment which can be stressful.
TYPICAL WORKING CONDITIONS:
Work performed in office and/or clinic environment. Involves frequent contact with patients. Work may be stressful at times. Interaction with others is constant and interruptive. Contact involves dealing with people who may be upset. Frequent exposure to communicable diseases, toxic substances and other conditions common to a clinic environment. Work weekends as needed.
