Overview Our Environmental Sector delivers comprehensive environmental solutions to meet the full project lifecycle needs of clients in renewable energy, oil & gas, transportation, and manufacturing industries. With one of the largest multimedia air and land permitting and compliance teams in the country, we support client success in manufacturing and industry, liquids delivery and processing, natural gas storage and delivery, power generation and delivery, and transportation projects.

POSITION SUMMARY TRC is soliciting applications from highly motivated, qualified individuals to fill a Wetland Scientist position on our Planning, Permitting, and Licensing Practice. The Wetland Scientist can report to the Lowell or Waltham, MA offices. The Wetland Scientist position would have an emphasis in field work and environmental permitting for a variety of projects and clients in the areas of energy, utilities development, and transportation.

Responsibilities KEY RESPONSIBILITIES & TASKS The successful applicant will be involved in a wide variety of projects including electric generation and transmission, renewable energy projects and pipeline projects. Applicants should either have experience leading and conducting wetland delineations or demonstrate progress towards wetland delineation proficiency through training and project work to date. Applicants should be familiar with the Massachusetts Wetlands Protection Act and its regulations as well as federal wetland delineation methodology.

Familiarity in additional state jurisdictions (e.g. CT, RI, NH, NY, and ME) is desirable. Applicants should have technical writing experience, including Wetland Delineation reports permit preparation.

The ideal candidate should be familiar with functional assessments as well as be able to conduct diverse biological field work with minimal supervision and have familiarity with operating GPS devices for data collection. This role may include performing sensitive species management, construction monitoring, environmental permitting, and technical writing. Applicants should be able to assist with a mix of biological natural resource related field and office tasks and assure each assignment follows the project scope, schedule, and budget.

The position may entail short-term and long-term field assignments; therefore, the candidate must be willing and physically able to travel and work outdoors in rough and remote terrain under challenging environmental conditions; and have a valid driver's license and an acceptable driving record. Applicants should have experience performing environmental monitoring and/or SWPPP inspections for construction projects, interacting in the field with clients and other contractors, and managing budgets and schedules is a plus. Applicants with experience preparing and/or managing National Environmental Policy Act (NEPA) documentation is desirable.

Qualifications PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS: Have or be working toward a Professional Wetland Scientist (PWS) Certification. Have 3 to 7 years of relevant work experience.

Knowledge of the following: Northeastern flora and fauna, plant species identification, wetland field delineation, natural resource inventory, vernal pool assessment, construction-related erosion and sedimentation control practices, post-construction restoration monitoring, and wildlife habitat assessments. Experience preparing MA WPA permits, including NOIs, RDAs, and ANRADs.

Experience with other state, federal and local permits is desirable. Preference will also be given to applicants that have experience working on energy, renewable, and transportation projects, as well as solid experience with state and local permitting processes. Compensation will vary based upon experience, education, skill level, and other compensable factors.
