We are seeking an experienced Wetland Scientist to be based in our Clifton Park, New York, office. This individual will be a lead wetland delineator and function as task manager for field surveys. This person will mentor field technicians and entry level staff to support their development of field skills (e.g., plant identification and soil characterization). The successful applicant will be a part of our Permitting, Planning, and Licensing group and will be involved in a wide variety of projects across New York, including many renewable energy projects across New York. There is also the option to support long-term field assignments in other states, if interested and available.

Job Responsibilities:

  • Lead wetland delineations and functional assessments based on the USACE 1987 Manual and applicable regional supplements.

  • Lead habitat and other biological surveys with minimal supervision.

  • Manage field teams and logistics.

  • Train junior staff on plant identification, soil characterization, and hydrologic indicators.

  • Serve as a technical resource for environmental reporting related to terrestrial and aquatic resources.

  • Prepare permit applications and field data reports to support permitting and licensing efforts.

  • Coordinate closely with the geographic information system (GIS) team to develop required mapping for permitting and other environmental documents.

  • Support other biological surveys including vernal pool, winter raptor, breeding bird, and habitat for protected species/species of special concern.

  • Serve as a construction or environmental monitor to support compliance with stormwater and Stormwater Pollution and Prevention Plan (SWPPP) requirements.

  • Provide oversight of implementation of construction Best Management Practices and provide input on restoration or mitigation strategies during construction.

  • Provide oversight of environmental restoration activities on construction sites.

Required Qualifications:

  • Minimum qualifications include a Bachelor's degree in environmental science, biology, ecology, botany, forestry, or related field.

  • 3 to 5 years of post-degree experience in field investigations, including wetland delineations and permit compliance monitoring for utility construction projects.

  • Experience preparing Joint Permit Application packages for the New York State Department of Environmental Conservation and U.S. Army Corps of Engineers.

  • Ability to professionally interact in the field with clients, regulatory agencies, and other contractors.

  • Familiarity with a variety of GPS equipment and electronic data collection .

  • Excellent technical writing and communication skills.

  • Positive and team-focused individual with the willingness to complete field work year-round.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • PWS certification or the ability to obtain is preferred.

  • Experience completing other biological surveys (e.g., winter raptor surveys, breeding bird surveys, bat surveys).

  • Experience performing environmental monitoring and SWPPP inspections for construction projects preferred.

  • CPESC certification or the ability to obtain is preferred.

Job Responsibilities: We are seeking an Environmental Analyst who is a strong technical writer and task manager for our Clifton Park, Ithaca, Liverpool or West Seneca, New York offices. This person will support the planning, permitting, and development of projects across New York, with a focus on renewable energy development. This includes the review of regulatory requirements, development of applications and reports to address regulatory requirements, and the support of agency consultation. The successful applicant will be a part of our Permitting, Planning, and Licensing group and part of a dynamic team of scientists, engineers, planners, and other technical specialists in New York. This individual will also have opportunities to support field assignments. Key functions of this position include: * Preparation of permit applications, environmental documentation, State Environmental Quality Review Act (SEQRA) documentation, and field data reports. * Review of environmental and municipal regulations to identify compliance requirements. * Development of agency consultation packages and coordination with local and regional agencies. * Support public outreach and stakeholder engagement efforts, which may include participation in public meetings and/or open houses. * Support wetland delineations and other biological surveys. * Support proposal development for new opportunities. Required Qualifications: * A Bachelor's degree in environmental science, biology, ecology, botany, forestry, or related field. * 3 to 5 years of post-degree experience in environmental consulting related to planning, permitting, or regulatory compliance. * Familiarity with federal and New York State environmental regulations. * Experience supporting power generation, including renewable energy, and energy transmission (e.g. transmission lines or pipelines). * Experience leading a team to execute a task or work scope (e.g., preparation of a permit application package or technical data report). * Excellent technical writing and communication skills, including meeting facilitation. * Ability to maintain a positive attitude during year-round field work. * Ability to participate in meetings with clients or agencies with minimal supervision. * Perform well with minimum supervision. Preferred Qualifications * Experience managing projects, developing project schedules, and managing project budgets. * Mentoring/training of entry level staff. * Familiarity with GPS and electronic data reporting. * Experience preforming environmental monitoring for construction projects. * Completion of the SWPPP Inspector 4-hour training course.
