TITLE: Wellness Coach

JOB OVERVIEW: Wellness Coaches are senior Exercise Specialists who are required to complete and be competent in all roles required of the role of Exercise Specialist in addition to unique responsibilities requiring advanced exercise prescription and lifestyle medicine counseling. All Wellness Coaches shall report directly to department coordinators and manager. The position requires critical thinking skills and the ability to competently work independent of on-going instruction. Employees are expected to maintain a safe and clean exercise environment meanwhile creating a professional health and wellness atmosphere.

Wellness Coaches are expected to provide leadership and clinical/exercise expertise within the Lifestyle Medicine Centers.

AREA OF ASSIGNMENT: Fitness Center and Lifestyle Medicine Clinics

HOURS OF WORK: Monday through Friday; variable hours

RESPONSIBLE TO: Lifestyle Medicine and Fitness Operations Manager

PREREQUISITES:

  • Minimum of Bachelors degree in Exercise Science, Kinesiology, Exercise Physiology, Nutrition/Dietetics or a related field. High preference given to candidates with dual credentialing in Exercise and Nutrition fields.

  • Preferred 4 years, minimum 2 years of experience in exercise prescription, fitness center management or lifestyle medicine coaching services.

  • Advanced certification in exercise such as ACLM board certification, WellCoach Certification or similar approved credential.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Advanced knowledge of anatomy and physiology, movement assessment, exercise prescription for populations in good health and with chronic diseases or physical limitations.

  • Demonstrates good teaching skills.

  • Demonstrates excellent interpersonal communication skills with a diverse population of age groups and conditions.

  • CPR certification or eligible to take within 60 days of hire.

  • Strong computer skills and ability to learn new computer programs.

  • Demonstrated ability to manage multiple tasks and demands ensuring a high degree of accuracy and attention to detail.

  • Willingness to embrace and seize opportunities provided by change.

  • Proficient at performing staff and patient education related to diet, exercise, and other components of overall wellness.

  • Experience in performing fitness evaluations and prescriptions for people with special needs.

Requires the ability to plan, promote, and implement new programs independently and the ability to compile, calculate, interpret, and explain statistical data. Requires knowledge of all exercise equipment and ability to explain to others. Requires ability to assist members physically including pushing a wheelchair, guarding patients at risk for falls, and demonstrating fitness related activities. Must be able to effectively listen to customers and meet their unique customer service needs.

B. Essential Responsibilities and Competencies:

All Lifestyle Medicine Based Wellness Coaches:

  • Proficient with and confident performing biometric screening tests including blood pressure, heart rates, RPE, subVO2 max assessment, girth measurements, BMI and body composition testing.

  • Proficient with performing the Health Risk Assessment as part of a therapy plan of care and collaborating with a care team in order to assure proper integration of wellness services for appropriate patients.

  • Inform members about services and health information through a variety of mediums including written and verbal communication.

  • Appropriately receive and addressing member feedback related to the Fitness Center and Lifestyle programs, including communication with management as necessary.

  • Assist in planning and implementing ongoing incentive programs, innovative services, and programs for members as identified in departmental goals and member suggestions.

  • Actively participate in the development, management and ongoing delivery of the wellness programming within the Lifestyle Medicine Center.

  • Serve as a liaison for health and wellness programming support throughout the hospital and clinic network.

  • Sell memberships and associated ancillary services to potential members by giving tours, answering questions, presenting sales promotions, and completing paperwork.

  • Competence with motivational interviewing, readiness for change assessment and intensive behavioral therapy-based coaching.

  • Ensure proper medical clearance is performed or obtained when appropriate at initiation of programming.

  • Orient new members and/or patients to the facility and equipment.

  • Monitor exercise activities using safe and appropriate techniques/procedures.

  • Must be able to demonstrate and correct exercise form and provide consistent cueing to members as necessary.

  • Provide accurate individualized fitness and health risk assessments.

  • Teach health education classes and provide effective staff in-services.

  • Deliver smoking cessation support group and individual coaching sessions.

  • Attend and actively participate all required meetings/trainings.

  • Enhance knowledge and skills through continuing education.

  • Complete timely, professional EMR documentation as part of the clinical care team

  • Maintain high standards of professionalism and perform at best practice standards within the fitness industry.

  • Enforce Club/Clinic Rules and Regulations.

  • Proficient in constructing exercise programs that maintain physician/therapist ordered exercise and contraindications specific to individual member needs and goals.

  • Other duties as assigned to facilitate accurate, timely, positive facility interactions and operations.

  • Source of expertise and training to fellow staff on MyWellness Cloud Application.

  • Perform nutrition counseling and coaching to the level of expertise/education.

  • Collaborate with the Exercise Specialist team to deliver appropriate personalized exercise prescription, fitness assessment and medical fitness programming.

  • Development and delivery of wellness programming including educational seminars, employee health instruction, small and large group population health education.

  • Must demonstrate a clear understanding of program progression and modification, including those individuals with special needs and conditions such as diabetes, cardiovascular and pulmonary diseases and joint and orthopedic issues.

MyHealth Employee Clinic Specific Duties:

  • Participation in the clinical care team to deliver comprehensive health and wellness programming

  • Engaged participation in team rounding and care plan creation for appropriate patients

  • Develop and deliver health risk screening, wellness plans and lifestyle medicine coaching sessions.

  • Assist with patient check-in, health history intake, MyChart registration and other clinical functions as appropriate.

  • Proficient with EMR documentation, review of systems and delivery of the dashboard reports in compliance with the clinic procedures.

  • Manage virtual communication portal and deliver appropriate and consistent messaging as developed.

  • Provide individualized wellness coaching on all areas of Lifestyle Medicine including nutrition, exercise, sleep, stress, alcohol/tobacco and risk assessment.

  • Assist patients and provide accountability in developing health goals and action plans related to health optimization.

Purpose Statement Promotes and ensures the efficient and effective operations of the Grooming Salon. Responsible for achieving targeted goals of the grooming salon to include budgeted sales goals, gross margin to budget, labor percentage to budget, promoter metrics, supply costs, staffing and oversees the daily operations of the salon. Through the lens of our Petco Co-Values, ensures the health, welfare and proper care of all live animals. Provides grooming services that align with brand promise. Provides training, feedback and coaching for Pet Stylists, Pet Stylist Apprentices, Grooming Salon Apprentices and Grooming Assistants. Ensures the safety of both salon partners and pets. This job is composed of a variety of different tasks that may be covered by Petco operational standards, policies and procedures. The Grooming Salon Leader is responsible for the welfare of all live animals Grooming Salon. Key Accountabilities The incumbent must be able to consistently perform all the following duties and responsibilities with or without a reasonable accommodation. * Ensure the health and well-being of live animals by providing the correct care in accordance with the established Petco standards, policies and procedures. * Adheres to Veterinary Protocol for all sick animals. * Supervises the daily operations of the grooming salon. * Professionally manages and performs grooming services including brushing, bathing, ear and teeth cleaning, expression of anal glands, & trimming nails. Follow owner's instructions and/or Breed Profiles/Standards when clipping or trimming an animal's coat. Ensure the safety and well-being of animals. * Completes personal & salon partners' daily grooming sales paperwork(s). Reviews all grooming partners' paperwork(s) daily to ensure the proper sales are recorded on each pet before turning in to the store leader. * Orders supplies as necessary for the grooming salon. In partnership with the Guest Experience Leader, provides and properly maintains clippers, blades, and other hand tools required to perform grooming services. * Assists with building the grooming business (IE: Reminder calls, Book-a-Bath, 3 With Me... Greet guests on the sales floor and or during vaccination clinics to promote grooming services). * Ensures Grooming Salon cleanliness, performs routine housekeeping to maintain appearance of the Grooming Salon to Petco standards. * Provides courteous service to all guests by utilizing the GUEST+ Model in the salon. * Exhibits a high level interest in animal welfare. * Adheres to and promotes established safety procedures and maintenance of clean, safe and healthy environment for store partners, guests and animals. * Adheres to loss prevention policies. * Interacts professionally and effectively through verbal and written communication with internal and external partners and guests. * Ensures that the salon is staffed and properly trained to offer grooming services during all hours of operations. * Directly supervises the Grooming Salon partners. * Meets grooming sales projections, controls payroll and expenses to meet budget, maintains daily and weekly records, schedules guest grooming appointments, assists in preparation of bi-weekly work schedule. * Analyzes reports to assess the state of the business and develops action plans to improve where needed to achieve budgets and goals. * Assists the Guest Experience Leader and/or Store Leader in recruiting and hiring Grooming Salon partners. * Provides orientation and training to all new Grooming Salon partners and monitors productivity. * Identifies all situations and/or conditions that negatively affect the Grooming Salon to the Guest Experience Leader, Store Leader and/or Leader on Duty. * Collaborates with store Partners to ensure an exceptional guest experience for all Omni-channel initiatives, to include but not limited to Instacart, Extended Aisle, and Repeat Delivery. * Performs activities to maintain a knowledge and understanding of Store Sales and Margin reports and data. * Applies a talent management skill set within the scope of recruiting, hiring, training, work scheduling, coaching and succession planning. * In partnership with store leaders, recruits, hires and develops a team focus on building long-term guest relationships. * Trains and coaches proper safety procedures to all grooming salon partners, to provide the best pet and Partner experience focusing on the health & wellness of both the pet and the partner. * Reviews Partner Promoter survey results with SL and GEL and works with salon staff to develop action plans. Supervisory Responsibility Directly supervise all Grooming Salon partners. Provide guidance and training to salon staff. Test potential applicants for grooming procedures and evaluate skills on other job related tasks. Complete performance evaluations for all salon partners. Work Environment The majority of job duties are conducted indoors in the grooming salon. Position requires bending, kneeling, lifting (up to 50 pounds, as necessary) and standing for long periods of time. A large amount of this partner's time will be spent in direct contact with our guests and their dogs and the remaining time will be with the other salon and store partners. The work environment can be noisy and wet. Improper use of safety equipment and/or not following proper lifting techniques may pose of risk of injury to customers, pets, and store personnel. Follow all safety precautions and procedures. Education and Experience Minimum high school diploma (its equivalency i.e. GED) or the equivalent work experience. Some college level business/management courses is preferred. 5 years' experience in guest service roles as a store partner is preferred. Experience supervising partners, or demonstrating an aptitude for training, motivation and sales techniques, and analytical abilities is preferred. Minimum two years' experience in all breeds grooming is required. Experience monitoring and providing direction to Grooming partners is preferred.
