Position Purpose:
Provide service to YMCA members in the fitness center and to ensure the safety and risk management of the area and the members.
Responsibilities:
Conduct Wellness Center Orientations based on branch guidelines and provide assistance in a safe, enthusiastic, thorough, courteous and professional manner.
Follow YMCA of Greater Brandywine Fitness Center absolutes:
Members working out in the Fitness Center will be acknowledged by staff
Staff will be identifiable by staff shirt and nametag
Staff is trained and knowledgeable
Our facility and equipment will be clean
Report any mechanical or breakdown problems immediately to fitness director and document in maintenance logbook and on equipment.
Be available for advice, spotting and other assistance to membership.
Encourage members to wipe down vinyl seating of strength and cardiovascular equipment and benches after use.
Clean and organize equipment as requested by supervisor.
Participate in special events and open houses throughout the year.
Maintain continuous surveillance of Wellness Center during shift.
Encourage members to live a healthy lifestyle.
Perform other duties as assigned by supervisor.
Qualifications:
Must be 18 years of age or older
Effective communication skills and ability to interface with all personality types required.
Lifting (up to 40lbs. independently, more than 50lbs. with assistance), walking, stooping, kneeling, crouching or standing (for sustained periods of time).
Knowledge and/or experience in basic exercise principles required.
Obtain and maintain all additional new hire certifications and trainings within 90 days of hire.
