Job Summary

The Wellness Assistant works under the direction of the Wellness Director to provide support for all wellness programming classes, workshops, group visits, healthy food demonstrations and seasonal activities. This position is responsible for coordinating and facilitating traditional Alaska Native arts and craft activities and workshops for un'ina coming into the Dena'ina Wellness Center. The Wellness Assistant works both independently and collaboratively, leading traditional seasonal activities with programs across Kenaitze Indian Tribe, facilitating shared knowledge to support overall health and wellness.

Essential Functions

  • Develop monthly Alaska Native arts and crafts kits for wokshops and distributions

  • Facilitate weekly Alaska Native arts and crafts workshops

  • Assist in maintenance of DWC Campus raised traditional plant beds

  • Assist in creation of wellness education displays

  • Co-facilitate Chronic Disease Self-Management Education and Diabetes Self-Management Education classes

  • Ensures compliance with Tribal, federal, state, and local employment laws and regulations, Tribal policies and TERO ordinance

Qualifications

Education

  • High School Diploma or GED

Experience

  • One year (1) of experience preferred. Must be knowledgeable of traditional crafting techniques, and Alaska Native plant identification, ethical harvesting and traditional Alaska Native plant uses

Preferred

  • Knowledge and experience working with Alaska Native/American Indian people preferred

License/Certification

  • CPR and AED certification

  • Must have a valid Alaska State driver's license and must remain insurable under the Tribe's policy, or obtain within 90 days of hire, or, with approval of the hiring manager, sign a *Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) in lieu of having a driver's license to perform the required duties of the position (If Applicable)

Special Skills

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills

  • Proficient use of personal computer including Microsoft Outlook, Word, and Excel

  • Able to provide courteous, collaborative and culturally-honoring service to all un'ina, staff and visitors, and must be a team player

  • Conducts business in a service-oriented manner that is attentive, pleasant, respectful and kind when dealing with un'ina, visitors, co-workers and others

This position is a Covered Position subject to all requirements of the Alaska Barrier Crimes Act (ABCA) and to the Indian Child Protection and Family Violence Prevention Act, (ICPA). ABCA and ICPA requirements apply and must be complied with at all times in order to remain in the position.
