Job Summary

Alaska Overview

ConocoPhillips is Alaska's largest crude oil producer and largest owner of exploration leases, with approximately 1.2 million net undeveloped acres at year-end 2022. The company produced an average of 200 thousand barrels of oil equivalent per day in 2022. ConocoPhillips has major ownership interests in two of North America's largest legacy conventional oil fields, both located on Alaska's North Slope: Kuparuk, which the company operates, and Prudhoe Bay. Additionally, ConocoPhillips operates several fields on the Western North Slope. The company has an ownership interest in the Trans-Alaska Pipeline System (TAPS) and owns/operates the Polar Tankers fleet.

Description

ConocoPhillips Alaska, Inc (CPAI) is currently hiring a Well Intervention Engineer to support special projects and long-term planning efforts across the North Slope including Willow. The successful candidate will be responsible for the identification of technology gaps, new technology development and deployment to meet current and future needs. Special projects are largely focused on management of aging well inventory, high-angle and extended reach well intervention, GHG reduction, and exploration/ice-road intervention activity support.

This position interfaces with the Wells Planning group to provide guidance on the feasibility of future intervention and integrity work scopes in the early design phases of new well construction and will report to the Intervention & Integrity Engineering Supervisor.

Job Description

Your responsibilities may include:

  • Identification of both short and long-term cost-effective and operationally safe well intervention technology needs for the Alaska BU; this also includes plug and abandonment technologies.

  • Collaborate with vendors, stakeholders, and Global Wells to thoroughly vet and champion new technology and/or tools from concept through to North Slope implementation, including building and communicating a business case, pre-job planning, operational oversight, and after-action reviews.

  • Development and maintenance of the intervention part of the Alaska Wells Team's technology roadmap to communicate progress of key technologies with stakeholders.

  • Develop or review procedures and provide engineering and/or operational support for the following types of projects:

  • Remote exploration and/or seasonal projects that involve intervention and non-rig suspend or plug & abandonment work scopes

  • Unique intervention scopes, such as remedial Open Hole Standalone Screen (OHSAS) placement within existing slotted liners or setting/pulling jointed patches more than 1000 ft in length.

  • Daily wellwork to assist fellow Well Intervention or Integrity Engineers with workload swings

  • Mentor and provide technical support to fellow Wells Engineers and key stakeholders, including production and surveillance reservoir engineers

  • Champion documentation of best practices and lessons learned from key projects to drive a continuous improvement culture with respect to well interventions and integrity

Basic/Required:

  • Must be legally authorized to work in the United States on a full-time basis for anyone other than current employer

  • 5+ years direct experience in well intervention and/or well services operations, including but not limited to slickline, E-line, service coil and/or pumping operations

  • Willing and able (with or without reasonable accommodation) to travel up to 15% of the time

Preferred:

  • Bachelor's Degree or higher in Engineering or foreign equivalent

  • 10+ years of direct experience in well intervention and/or well services operations, including but not limited to slickline, E-line, service coil and/or pumping operations

  • Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Office and WellView

  • Intermediate proficiency in database querying or programming languages (such as SQL or python) and data visualization tools (such as Spotfire or PowerBI)

  • Self-driven work ethic, requiring minimal direction and/or support to remain productive

  • Demonstrated ability to prioritize and efficiently progress numerous projects by balancing key stakeholder needs with overall strategic value for the business

  • Demonstrated ability to remain flexible to continuously changing priorities and pivot as business or resource needs dictate

  • Builds positive relationships based on trust and seeks collaboration across organizational boundaries to achieve goals

  • Drives thoughtful and pragmatic change, encourages innovative thinking and continuous improvement, and models adaptability through resourcefulness, flexibility and positivity
