Welding Supervisor

GDH is seeking a high level welder with aluminum welding experience to supervise and take over the welding department with our client here in Kansas City.

Requires minimum 5 years (TIG - Aluminum/SST) welding and fabrication experience. This position is a working position requiring hands on welding and fabricating while managing a team of welders. This position would be instrumental in developing the welding capabilities and managing weld procedure qualifications, procedure qualification records, welder qualification records, weld maps, and continuity logs. This position leads team members to complete continuous improvement projects and tasks in accordance with operational goals as well as participating in LEAN events.

Duties and responsibilities

  • Ability to read and interpret shop drawings and production orders.

  • Strong comprehension of AWS welding code

  • Participate in welding program including PQR's, WQP's and continuity logs.

  • Generate weld maps.

  • Provides technical expertise to problems

  • Requisitions supplies (weld rods, gas, flux, fixtures, etc ).

  • Guide fitting and assembly of welded, structural assemblies.

  • Maintain compliance to business policies and procedures pertaining to safety, housekeeping and work habits.

  • Ensure the product is manufactured to specifications and procedures under the guidelines customer engineering, industry standards and job travelers.

  • Lead the area of responsibility in safety, rework reduction, throughput improvement, lean manufacturing, 6S concept and quality improvement initiatives.

  • Identify innovative process and continuous improvement opportunities.

  • Other duties as assigned.


  • Ability to inspect parts for compliance to print.

  • CWI Certification a plus.

  • Qualified or has the ability to qualify to aluminum and stainless TIG procedures.

  • Strong comprehension of AWS welding code (AWS 17.1, 1.6, 1.2, 1.1)

  • Ability to perform in a fast-paced environment.

  • Demonstrated leadership ability.

  • Experience in a NADCAP approved welding facility a plus.

  • Experience in ISO9001, AS9100 a plus.

  • Capable of using calipers and other precision measuring instruments.

  • Motivated, self-starter, must take on new roles and responsibilities as needed.

  • 5 years' prior experience welding and fabricating to AWS standards.

  • Proficient in MS Office.

  • Customer focused.

  • Excellent problem solving skills.

  • Must have a positive, "can do" attitude.

  • Ability to work with others in a team environment and to give/receive feedback.
