The College desires candidates with a commitment to the community college mission and experience working in a diverse student population, including adult learners and at-risk students. The successful candidate will be committed to academic excellence, continuous improvement through professional development, assessment, program and course development, and creating a collegial environment of civility, collaboration and open communication.
The college strives for a faculty of content experts who are also knowledgeable about best practices, innovative strategies, and instructional technologies that support teaching and learning. Outreach and service to the college community (developing partnerships, academic advising, committee work and faculty governance) are required. Finalists will be asked to perform a teaching demonstration and demonstrate welding ability by completing a test plate.
The scope of the assigned responsibilities for this position includes teaching, leadership, management, development and support of the College's Welding courses and program. The faculty and program head will be the primary instructor for Welding at the New Kent site and help manage all other welding locations.
This position will teach both Dual Enrollment (High School students) and adult learners. The faculty and program head will also manage and lead instructors to make improvements based on assessment data, curriculum advisory committee feedback, industry needs, and student opinion data. This position is oriented toward the provision of excellent customer service, development of a proactive culture and active pursuit of creative approaches to problem-solving and seeking out new opportunities in the field that ultimately lead to student success.
Special Assignments
May be required to perform other duties as assigned. May be required to assist the agency or state government generally in the event of an emergency declaration by the Governor.
KSA's/Required Qualifications
The successful candidate will have a high school diploma or equivalent, and five years or more of welding experience. Working knowledge of welding shop safety practices and proper PPE, knowledge of metal fabrication, pipe fitting, and welding machine operation and maintenance.
Must be able to lift 50 lbs. and be able to intermittently stand, walk, bend, push, and pull for continuous hours. Knowledge of SMAW, GMAW, GTAW, and FCAW processes. This position requires good eyesight that has to be correctible to 20/20.
This is accomplished with glasses or a helper who lends a hand in the welding shield. Excellent interpersonal and communications skills required. Must be competent with office computer and software programs such as MS Office, Excel, MS Word, MS Outlook.
Demonstrates understanding of and passion for the community college mission. Preference will be given to candidates with considerable teaching experience at the community college level.
