Follow an established to perform a variety of preventive maintenance and minor repair duties on a wide variety of mechanical systems and components associated with West Campus and East Campus Steam Plants. Components include but are not limited to: pumps, valves, dampers, actuators, air compressors, air stations and diesel engines.
Plant systems include but are not limited to: steam, condensate, compressed air, cooling water, draft, lube oil, pneumatic, fire protection, and water treatment. Detect unusual conditions and report to supervisor. Maintain proper documentation of working inspect, clean, lubricate and perform routine preventive maintenance on pumps, fans, valves, motors, dampers, actuators, air compressors, air stations, diesel engines, louvers various pneumatic and electrical controls, air conditioning units, air and steam traps, filters, relief valves, expansion tanks, etc.
Align and adjust belts and coupling devices. Repack valves as necessary. Operate welding equipment such as electric AC/DC arc, mig, tig, plasma arc, hellarc, and oxygen/acetylene and other equipment such as drill press, grinder, power saws, pipe threader, portable power tools and hand tools.
Measure, lay out, fabricate and construct simple to moderately difficult shapes, sizes and varieties of metals. Repair, weld, assemble and/or erect various items such as scaffolding, pipes and valves as required. Fabricate, install and repair high and low pressure steam and condensate water lines, high and low pressure air lines, converters, etc. in tunnels, manholes, mechanical rooms, shops and buildings, as required. Install welded and flange joined piping.
