Summary of the Role
The Function of the Welder is to prep and weld steel, aluminum and stainless steel parts using a TIG process as instructed by supervisors. This position also maintains a safe working environment and good housekeeping conditions.
Responsibilities
- Must maintain 100% commitment to safety policies and procedures. Help create a safety culture and actively engage the workforce in projects that will help reach our journey to zero incidents
- Set up welding machines based on the job at hand or using a Welding Procedure Specification
- Read and interpret blueprints and/or drawings to determine the specific welding requirements
- TIG weld steel, aluminum and stainless steel components based on the specifications of the blueprints and/or drawings
- Ensure work is done safely and meets quality standards.
- Follow, create and help maintain Welding Procedure Specifications
- Set up welding cells for serial production runs
- Operate machinery used in the production process, or assist machine operators
- Keep work areas clean and organized and take proper care of all equipment and facilities
- Provide a great level of attention to detail and focus on the given task.
- Follow all safety rules and quality standards
- Work with team members to maximize productivity and efficiency
- Other duties deemed necessary by management.
Skills and Abilities
- Possess excellent customer service skills
- Ability to interact with customers and team-members in a professional manner
- Ability to work independently and prioritize responsibilities
- Must have excellent communication skills, both oral and written
- Requires a proficiency in math skills including addition, subtraction, multiplication and division in units of measure
- Basic computer skills including MS Word, Excel, internet and email
- Strong mechanical maintenance experience and strong knowledge hand and power tools
- Experience with steel, aluminum and/or stainless steel required
- Experience with TIG welding highly preferred.
- Knowledge of raw materials, production processes, quality control, costs, and other techniques for maximizing the effective manufacture and distribution of goods
- Ability to identify and measure material
- Ability to produce quality products consistently
Minimum Qualifications
- Must be 18 years of age or older
- High school diploma/GED and completion of a craft apprenticeship, or an equivalent number of years of education and production maintenance experience
- One year of TIG welding experience
- Must be able to pass TIG welding test within six weeks
- Reliable transportation is a must
- Ability to see in color
- Ability to work overtime, as required
- Ability to pull, push, grasp, bend, lift and carry up to 50 lbs independently on a repeated basis
- Ability to consistently move throughout the facility during the full workday
- Ability to comprehend work procedure and safety instructions, written or verbally
- Must have a mechanical aptitude and the ability to learn about how our products are produced on equipment
- Basic computer skills, including Microsoft Word and Excel
- Basic math skills to calculate dimensions and inventory
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience working in an industrial setting
- 2+ years of manufacturing experience
- Requires excellent verbal and written communications skills
- The ability to read and comprehend blueprints
- The ability to interact effectively with all employees
- Solid background working with metal
- Knowledge of tooling and tool maintenance
- Proven measurement and mathematical fraction/decimal conversion skills
- Ability to distinguish material types including Aluminum, Steel, Stainless Steel, Copper, and Brass.
- Requires ability to organize and prioritize workload and be able to interact effectively with all types of people in a dynamic and fast-paced environment.
