Summary

Align, fit, weld and join metal components while supporting the achievement of established operating objectives. This position is responsible for protecting and promoting the interest of the company in all matters as specified.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

  • Position, align, fit, weld parts to form complete units or subunits, follows blueprints and layout specifications, using fixtures, welding torches and hand tools.

  • Verify conformance of workpieces to specifications, using squares, rulers and measuring tapes.

  • Lay out and examine metal stock or workpieces to be processed in order to ensure that specifications are met.

  • Align and fit parts according to specifications, using jacks, turnbuckles, wedges, drift pins, pry bars and hammers.

  • Locate and mark workpiece bending and cutting lines, allowing for stock thickness, machine and welding shrinkage, and other component specifications.

  • Position or tighten braces, jacks, clamps, ropes, and/or bolt straps, or bolt parts in position for welding or riveting.

  • Study engineering drawings and blueprints to determine materials requirements and task sequences.

  • Move parts into position, manually or by using hoists or cranes.

  • Operate safety equipment and use safe work habits.

  • Weld components in flat, vertical or overhead positions.

  • Clamp, hold, tack-weld, heat-bend, grind and/or bolt component parts to obtain required configurations and positions for welding.

  • Detect faulty operation of equipment and/or defective materials and notify supervisors.

  • Operate manual or semi-automatic welding equipment to fuse metal segments, using processes such as gas tungsten arc, gas metal arc, flux-cored arc, plasma arc, shielded metal arc, resistance welding and submerged arc welding.

  • Monitor the fitting, burning and welding processes to avoid overheating of parts or warping, shrinking, distortion or expansion of materials.

  • Examine workpieces for defects to ensure conformance with specifications.

  • Recognize, set up and operate hand and power tools common to the industry.

  • Operates company vehicles/equipment in a safe and courteous manner and properly parks and secures vehicles at all times.

  • Obey traffic laws and follow established traffic and transportation procedures.

  • Participate in all company training.

  • Follow all company policies, procedures and safety rules. Conduct self at all times in a professional, ethical and courteous manner as a representative of the company.

Qualifications

  • Two -Three years related experience.

  • Ability to perform sanitary fit up and weld to print

  • Ability to read and interpret blueprint and other written instructions. 1 year required.

  • Pipe fitting experience 1 year preferred.

  • TIG welding three (3) years required.

  • Food, pharmaceutical, beverage, or consumer products industry experience 1 year preferred.

  • Knowledge of equipment and safety procedures.

  • Ability to work independently.

  • Ability to compute basic shop math.

  • Valid Driver's License required.
