Job Description:

  • Applies appropriate welding processes to join surface, fabricate, or repair parts of metal or other weldable materials.

  • Must be able to complete a three-position weld test (V, H, OH) SMAW CS plate test

  • Must be able to complete structural workmanship test

  • Lays out and marks points on parts or subassemblies using rule, square, scribe or templates.

  • Positions pieces to be welded into jigs, holding fixtures, guides and steps using measuring instruments and hand tools.

  • Inspects completed work for conformance to specifications.

  • Provides guidance and work leadership to less-experienced welders.

  • Performs all work in accordance with established safety procedures.

  • Participates in special projects as required.

  • Must be able to obtain all necessary badges (DBIDS and shipyard).

  • Able to work on and climb ladders, work in extreme temperature environments, aboard ships, in shipyards, under industrial conditions and in confined spaces.

  • Performs other duties as assigned

  • Must be able to lift, carry and transport heavy equipment and boxes up to 75 lbs.


Requires a High School Diploma or GED. Technical or vocational training is a plus.


3+ years of related welding experience. Mustbe able to obtain a DBIDS Badge for access to Naval Bases, Naval Facilities, and private shipyards (BAE, NASSCO, etc.) Must be US Citizen. Travel may be required

Job Summary</p><p>Under general supervision, applies appropriate welds to fabricate or repair compactors, containers and carts.</p><p>II. Essential Duties and Responsibilities</p><p>To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform the following tasks.</p><ul><li><p>Performs minor repairs and applies basic welding processes.</p></li><li><p>Repairs compactors, containers and carts.</p></li><li><p>Performs preventive maintenance inspections, diagnostic and repair of electrical and hydraulic systems on compactors.</p></li><li><p>Qualified in the welding processes such as arc welding, gas welding, aluminum welding, brazing, and soft soldering on a variety of materials.</p></li><li><p>Conducts safety checks on compactors and containers.</p></li><li><p>Completes required paperwork utilizing fleet maintenance software program associated with repairing compactors and containers, documenting parts usage, and accounting for repair times.</p></li><li><p>Assists senior welders in the completion of project work.</p></li><li><p>Performs service calls for compactor repair.</p></li><li><p>Performs related work such as flame cutting, bending, forming, beveling, notching of metal and plastic parts.</p></li><li><p>Performs all work within Standard Repair Times (SRTs).</p></li><li><p>Works from prints, drawings and verbal instructions.</p></li><li><p>Performs standard layouts and set-ups of dimensions and tolerances.</p></li><li><p>Utilizes standard shop hand tools, measuring devices and equipment.</p></li><li><p>Performs other maintenance related work as required.</p></li><li><p>Maintains a clean, safe work area in compliance with Corporate / OSHA Standards.</p></li><li><p>Performs all work in accordance with established safety procedures.</p></li></ul><p>III. Supervisory Responsibilities</p><p>This job has no supervisory duties.</p><p>IV.
