Responsibilities

  • Removes, installs and tests electrical equipment, including cables, lights, horns, motors, controllers, engines, generators, and other components.

  • Requires performing preventive and corrective maintenance, performing pre-start and post operation checks on small Navy patrol and combat watercraft

  • Validate dimensions on drawings, determine deck and bulkhead materials, and determine best removal and installation route during a ship checks.

  • Use meters and other devices to connect, troubleshoot and operate electrical equipment.

  • Perform alignments.

  • Use various hand tools, drill press, welding machines, air compressor, generator, chain hoist, sandblaster, paint gun, grinder, forklift and other equipment to mount equipment and fabricate/install electrical connections, including soldered, crimped and mechanical terminations.

  • Read and interpret engineering drawings and instructions.

  • Knowledgeable and trained in safe work practices.

  • Will support mechanical and structural disciplines.

  • Assist in job-site set-up, maintenance, restoration, and securing.

  • Prepare and clean up work area.

  • Identify tools and materials per task and request materials as needed.

  • Perform other duties as assigned

Qualifications

A minimum of five years of consistent experience as a Welder/ Ship Fitter.

Journeyman or equivalent Navy training.

Provide own hand tools.

Must maintain an active SECRET security clearance.

Qualify in Aluminum, Steel and Stainless in the Six G position.

Competent with GTAW, SMAW and GMAW welding processes.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS/PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

CARRYING and LIFTING. Ability to transport and lift up to 50 lbs.

WALKING AND CLIMBING. Ability to climb up to four flights of stairs and climb ladders. Employee is required to access remote areas of multi-level vessels.

Must comply with Company's Driver Safety Policy if assigned to operate company and/or rental vehicles.

GENERAL DUTIES: * Repairing and troubleshooting hull damage to rails, hull structure, cabin tops and any other metal areas relating to CESE and boats. * Identify complex problems and solutions * MIG/TIG welding services MINIMUM SKILL REQUIREMENTS: * Must have a high school diploma or equivalent vocational degree or general educational diploma and a minimum of 5 years' general experience in their respective trade and at least 3 consecutive years of experience repairing and troubleshooting hull damage to rails, hull structure, cabin tops and any other metal areas relating to CESE and boats. * Have extensive knowledge of technical requirements. Ability to identify complex problems and solutions. * Ability to supervise lower level employees. * Ability to perform MIG/TIG welding service in accordance with Naval Ships' Technical Manual Chapter 074 Volume 1 Welding and Allied Processes * Ability to perform service in accordance with NAVSEA T0300-AU-SPN-010 Fabrication, Welding and Inspection of Small Boats and Craft, Aluminum Hulls. * Certified in Gas Tungsten Arc Welding (TIG), Gas Metal Arc Welding (MIG) and Gas Metal Arc Welding Pulse (GMAW-P) using 5356 filler wire per NAVSEA T0300-AU-SPN-010, page 72, Table 23 applicable OEM tech manuals. SECURITY REQUIREMENTS: * This position requires US citizenship and will be subject to a security investigation, must meet the eligibility requirements to obtain, and maintain a security clearance issued by the US Government.
