We provide care to both medical and surgical patients within a 12 bed unit. We work as part of the float pool within the main hospital located in Hartford. Our team is crossed trained to all of the inpatient and ICU's units. This opportunity provides new employees the benefit of caring for many patient populations. SUMMARY Under general supervision, assumes accountability to plan and provide direct professional nursing care for specified patients during his or her assigned shift as defined by population and unit. Provides nursing services to patients and families in accordance with the standards of practice of a professional nurse, CCMC policies & procedures, TJC, and State & federal regulations. Reports to Nurse Manager, Bed Management ROLE RESPONSIBILITIES CLINICAL PRACTICE: * Demonstrates clinical expertise and uses the nursing process to provide safe, appropriate patient care to a defined patient population according to CCMC and unit policies and standards. * Competently cares for all patients in med-surg and float assignments in the ICUs * Demonstrates knowledge of the population-specific differences and needs of patients in appropriate, specific populations from neonate through adolescence and applies them to practice. Demonstrates cultural sensitivity in all interactions with patients/families and co-workers LEADERSHIP AND MENTORING: * Delegates duties and tasks associated with patient care to clinical staff according to hospital policy and their scope of practice. * Participates in the professional development of others through preceptor/mentor activities and positive role modeling. * Supports the department's work productivity and resource management activities. DOCUMENTATION/COMMUNICATION : * Completes all required documentation in a timely manner; * Effectively communicates all information to members of the health care team. PATIENT/FAMILY PARTNERSHIP & EDUCATION: * Partners with child and family in evaluating outcomes. * Monitors and evaluates patient/family responses to treatment. * Provides and documents appropriate education to patients and families regarding all aspects of care according to CCMC policies and standards. QUALITY AND SAFETY: * Identifies safety concerns and barriers to optimal patient care and brings issue forward to appropriate leadership staff * Holds self and others accountable to unsure patient safety Demonstrates support for the mission, values and goals of the organization through behaviors that are consistent with the Connecticut Children's behaviors and leadership competencies.
