WJAC-TV is seeking a strong, energetic, and creative full-time Weekend Assignment Editor.

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to the following:

  • Gathering news affecting the community

  • Preparing story items for presentation in the newscasts

  • Assisting in the efficient operation of the assignment desk

Required skills and qualifications include, but are not limited to:

  • A minimum of one (1) year of assignment desk experience or equal college experience

  • Commitment to journalistic standards of ethics and accuracy

  • The ability to communicate effectively

  • Basic computer knowledge/word processing skills

  • General knowledge and interest in local, national and world news

  • The ability to work well under pressure and meet deadlines

  • proficiency with Facebook, Twitter and emerging social media

  • Web/Digital writing and producing are important aspects of this position

  • The ability to call sources and get information timely and accurately

  • Knowledge of how police and fire scanners work is necessary

  • A bachelor's degree with a major in journalism is preferred

This position is full-time and will require working a flexible schedule that includes nights and holidays.

WJAC-TV has a great opportunity for you! We are looking for interns for our News Department for the 2019-2020 Fall and Winter semesters. Qualified candidates should also be planning and preparing for a job in news. We are looking for highly motivated, dedicated students who are looking to get the most out of their internship experience. You must be eligible to receive college credit to participate in this internship, and be at least 18 years of age. This internship is unpaid. Credit Verification forms will be provided. Requirements: * Must be attending an accredited college or university studying mass communications, journalism, or a related major.
