Established in 1865, Virginia Union University gave newly emancipated slaves an opportunity for education, for establishing a community, and for gaining economic, political, and social advancement. The University is the result of a merger among four historic institutions: Richmond Theological Seminary, Wayland Seminary, Hartshorn Memorial, and Storer College. Richmond Theological Seminary held its first classes at Lumpkin's Jail, a former holding cell for runaway slaves. The Wayland Seminary was founded in 1865 by the American Baptist Home Mission Society in Washington, DC. Two years later Storer College was founded in West Virginia, and Hartshorn Memorial College opened its doors in 1883 as the first college for African American women in the country. After operating independently for three decades, these notable seminaries joined forces to form Virginia Union University in 1899. Hartshorn Memorial and Storer Colleges would eventually join this Union in 1932 and 1964, respectively.

Virginia Union University searches to fill a Webmaster position. This position shall provide ongoing analysis and monitoring of Internet and Intranet sites, make recommendations regarding design issues, upgrades, and security relating to Internet and Intranet presents, and provide for stable and high-speed connectivity to the existing network.

Duties and Responsibilities:

Specific duties may include and are not limited to the following:

Qualifications:

• Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform essential functions.

• Develop, maintain and provide support on the Intranet site.

• Monitor software licenses to ensure compliance.

• Ensure that all Internet standards are met and that the company does not intentionally violate any standards that would place our domain in jeopardy.

• Maintain and administer Internal and Internet POP mail servers.

• Participate in network department team meetings and offer input and suggestions on LAN/WAN projects.

• Perform duties of a network administrator in his/her absence or if assistance is needed.

• Responsible for administration of all legal Class C TP addresses and internal Class A addresses via DHCP server.

• Assist information systems manager in the design and implementation of WAN links to future sites (branches) using Frame relay and/or dedicated lease line circuits.

• Maintain and administer all legal Internet domains owned by the company.

• Develop, maintain and monitor web servers broadcasting an Internet domain.

• Responsible for DNS server and DNS naming structure.

• Responsible for looking for new ways to serve our Intranet members and for ways to use the Intranet more effectively in order to increase our internal efficiency of servicing the member.

• Use technology to provide staff with a fast, accurate, and secure method of gaining access to information, so they can service members in the fastest and most efficient manner possible.

• Maintain all servers and host controllers within the network department.

Salary: Commensurate with experience
