About the Department:
The Digital Systems and Strategies division of University Libraries provides: digital infrastructure and tools; digital asset management; digital publishing; digital scholarship services; research data management; and liaison with the university's ITS and external partners (consortia and publishers/vendors). It enables the critical life-cycle of access, creation, dissemination, and preservation of knowledge.
About the Position:
Provides management of the library's web and digital services area. Contributes to IT projects in the library and provides other services as required. The Web Developer also consults and works collaboratively with library faculty and staff, instructional faculty, researchers and students on a variety of digital projects.
Responsibilities:
Manages libraries web presence: Ensures an effective web presence for the Libraries through content management and utilization of appropriate web platforms and UX best practices. Provides resources and training to library colleagues, including liaisons, subject specialists, managers, and administrative coordinators, in the usage of these platforms to deliver research and learning information to target audiences;
Advises, manages, and provides technical assistance on digital projects and initiatives across the libraries. Manages timelines and deliverables for assigned digital projects and initiatives. Serves as team member on digital project management groups as appropriate; and
Contributes to the integration of library web platforms via APIs, REST and/or other(s). Provides development assistance to library repositories (e.g., DSpace, Dataverse, etc.).
Required Qualifications:
Bachelor's degree in computer science, or an ALA-accredited master's degree in library or information science, or an equivalent certified foreign degree with a significant concentration in information systems and related technologies;
Experience designing, developing and maintaining database-driven websites or services;
Experience with LAMP technologies (Linux, Apache, MySQL, PHP/PERL/PYTHON);
Knowledge of the role of academic libraries supporting student success, research productivity, and community engagement;
Single-user level UNIX system administration skills (e.g., shell competency);
Ability to work effectively as part of team; and
Ability to exercise independent judgement and problem solving.
Preferred Qualifications:
Master's degree in related field;
Substantive experience with LAMP technologies (Linux, Apache, MySQL, PHP/PERL/PYTHON);
Experience working in an academic library supporting student success, research productivity, and community engagement;
General knowledge of computer programming and data structures;
Proficiency with at least one CMS (e.g., Drupal, WordPress, Omeka, Joomla);
UNIX system administration skills beyond those of a single user;
Advanced competency in at least one scripting language (Python, PERL, PHP, JavaScript); and
API development skills and facility with appropriate tools/methods (e.g., JSON, REST, XML).
