The New School Publishing Initiative is a new university project working to create a hub for collaboration among university faculty and students involved with publishing, on line and off, using a wide variety of media forms. This is an important new initiative for The New School that may become a major innovation in academic publishing, something this university is uniquely constituted to accomplish. It will help showcase and disseminate the university's unique character and tradition.
The Initiative has two immediate goals:
1.* To further develop Public Seminar as a university resource, working with faculty and students across the university.
2.* To identify, develop and coordinate additonal university publishing projects, involving design, pedeogogy, research and creative pubilshing. This cross university interaction will lead to work at New School publishing hub on the 16th floor of 79 Fifth Avenue, where the Initiative is located, and to the development of a new university online platform as well.
To achieve these goals we are looking for one or two people who will serve as a web designer and digital platform manager. The person or people we hire will be responsible for designing and implementing a new webpage layout, determining technical requirements for new projects, maintaining design consistency across platforms, solving coding problems, evaluating and updating plugins, and mediating relations between Public Seminar crew and the New School IT department.
