Web Content Strategist

Job Description:

The Web Content Strategist supports the Web Services team and the SUU campus community by maintaining and developing web content on the public www.suu.edu website. This person must consider accessibility, usability, multi-browser compatibility, responsiveness, and performance for all users who interact with the site. They should possess knowledge of HTML, CSS, versioning, testing, and general front-end development skills. Additionally, excellent communication skills and a thorough understanding of grammar and spelling are essential.

This person will take content suggestions from campus constituents and evaluate ways to best implement them for SEO, usability, and maintenance. The position reports to the Web Services team, a division of the Information Technology department. Preference is for the candidate to be on-site, with flexibility for hybrid work as needed. Exceptional candidates who meet all criteria may be considered for remote work.

Duties and Responsibilities:

• Perform day-to-day maintenance of the SUU website, using ticket requests and web governance reports from Siteimprove to guide tasks.

• Review existing and newly submitted content on the website for accessibility and search engine optimization best practices. Make suggestions to content contributors on how to implement these best practices.

• Train and assist departmental/unit web liaisons around campus on using the content management system (CMS). Correct and educate liaisons on issues identified through regular site scans conducted via Siteimprove.

• Review the SUU website during any edits to ensure timeliness and accuracy of content, and make corrections where necessary.

• Pull analytics reports to help guide decisions and assist liaisons in interpreting analytics reports as needed.

• Meet with campus content contributors to discuss their ideas and provide guidance on the best ways to implement them online within SUU's framework.

• Engage in personal development and skill building on the latest trends in website creation, digital accessibility, SEO, and other pertinent skills.

• Perform other duties as assigned.

Education and Experience Requirements:

• 1-2 years of recent experience in writing, editing, and formatting content for websites with a focus on user experience, accessibility, and search engine optimization.

• Recent experience with HTML foundation and understanding of proper tag structure (within the last 1-2 years).

• Basic understanding of CSS and the ability to interpret existing style declarations.

• Awareness of digital accessibility concepts.

• Ability to work cordially with other university personnel from a broad range of departments.

• Experience managing concurrent projects and prioritizing tasks effectively.

Preferred:

• Bachelor's degree in Marketing, Communication, or a related field. Nearing completion of the degree is acceptable.

• Strong understanding of HTML, CSS, and SEO principles.

• Understanding of Section 508 and the ADA and how they relate to digital accessibility on the web.

• Experience interpreting web analytics.

Knowledge of or experience with Cascade CMS.

• Experience with the Siteimprove web governance suite.
