The Web Content Specialist is responsible for updating and maintaining the websites of the Marshall University Joan C. Edwards School of Medicine, the Robert C. Byrd Center for Rural Health, Marshall Health and other, affiliated entities, as well as creating unique web content that promotes the strategic vision of these organizations.
Content Management Duties
Develop and oversee an overall content strategy for the websites of the Marshall University Joan C. Edwards School of Medicine, the Robert C. Byrd Center for Rural Health, Marshall Health, and other, affiliated entities based on user needs and stakeholder objectives
Update and maintain the department websites based on direction from the Director of External Affairs and the Chief Information Officer for Marshall Health / SOM..
Create new and update existing content using contemporary web design best practices optimized for access to information, user experience and search engine optimization.
Ensure all units within the applicable organizations are adequately represented on the website.
Keep website content up to date and eliminate outdated and/or irrelevant content.
Edit website content using Umbraco content management system (CMS) and various plugins.
Collaborate with staff in the offices of External Affairs and Information Technology of Marshall Health / SOM to ensure compliance with policies and standards around brand standards, web content and online accessibility.
Implement search engine optimization (SEO) strategy, improving site ranking in organic search results.
Research content strategies in higher education, health care and the web industry and makes strategic recommendations for new content and web-based services to meet the organizations' strategic goals relating to the web.
Manage projects to assure quality and deadlines relating to new web initiatives.
Lead collaborative project work teams as appropriate or serve as collaborative team
member. Develop processes in a team environment to assure quality of web content projects.
Coordinate the collection of design, photography, interactive and programming components needed in the production of new web content for websites.
Develop and deliver training in relation to web content creation and management.
Perform image manipulation tasks such as creating thumbnails, image resize, file format
conversion and simple image edits.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities (include certifications)
Experience working on search engine optimization (SEO) projects, including the writing of effectively optimized web content
Proven, advanced-level experience working with Umbraco content management system
Proven experience and facility with Cognito Forms.
Proven experience and facility with TechSmith Relay or other lecture capture / recording platforms.
Basic-to-intermediate skill in web and graphic design tools and software (i.e., HTML, Adobe Photoshop, Adobe Dreamweaver, Adobe InDesign, Adobe Illustrator and Microsoft Office.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
Experience working on and writing for digital media platforms.
Knowledge of landing page best practices, design and creation.
Understanding of user-friendly web development and design principles, including browser differences and accessibility standards.
Experience with web user experience (UX) design.
Excellent customer service skills.
Must be able to perform all essential job duties as outlined in the job description.
Salary Range $50,000-$60,000 Salary range is commensurate with successful candidate's education and experience Salary Type Salary Time Type Full-Time Work Location MUSOM - MU School of Medicine
Associate's degree in communications, marketing, business, management, web design, computer science, graphic design or related field.
Minimum 2 years of experience in website production and content management and creation, with proven copyediting/proofreading, photo optimization, multimedia production and writing skills.
Preferred Education Preferred Experience
Exposure to web design and/or web content development through a higher education environment, or in an agency setting.
