Job Summary:

The Web Content and Strategy Manager oversees the planning, development and management of website content to support the strategic goals of the university, including those related to undergraduate and graduate enrollment, university advancement, and community outreach. This position ensures accessibility, usability, and functionality of the website by target audiences.

Duties/Responsibilities:

  • Serve as primary contact for the university website and administrator for the web content management system (Omni CMS).

  • Work with the Director of Marketing and Communications on web content strategy and with the Information Technology (IT) department on site support and maintenance.

  • Facilitate the creation and updating of web pages and content, working with clients across campus; manage training, approvals and permissions for departmental web editors.

  • Evaluate/ensure website usability and marketability, including cohesive and consistent brand messaging, captivating copy, visually-appealing design elements and hierarchy, and intuitive navigation; serve on newly-developing university-wide web project team tasked with making recommendations for revisions to site.

  • Use web analytics to collect, measure, analyze and report website data; identify opportunities to improve Search Engine Optimization (SEO), time on site, web traffic, and other relevant metrics.

  • Maintain a comprehensive understanding of evolving trends and advancements in web analytics and design technologies, with a particular focus on WordPress tools and methodologies.

  • Ensure compliance with university policies, procedures and ethical standards.

  • Ensure posting of federally-mandated and regulated website content.

  • Perform additional website-related duties as assigned. The omission of specific duties does not preclude the supervisor from assigning duties logically related to the position.

Required Skills/Abilities:

  • Expertise in website management, web usability principles and practices, accessibility guidelines, SEO standards and strategies, data analytics, and digital marketing principles and practices.

  • Working knowledge of web content management systems.

  • Strong marketing writing and editing skills; ability to adhere to consistent style, editorial and content guidelines.

  • Ability to interact effectively with Marketing and Communications team members, EMU IT, internal clients including senior management, as well as web vendors and freelancers.

  • Excellent organizational and problem-solving skills with the ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously and efficiently in a fast-paced, deadline-oriented environment.

  • Ability to interpret and analyze information in Google Analytics for effective decision-making.

  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office, HTML and CSS.

Education and Experience:

Bachelor's degree in computer/management information systems, digital media, journalism, marketing, communications, or related field, and a minimum of 3-5 years of professional experience in web content strategy and management. Client relations skills required.

Experience in a higher education or marketing/communications environment preferred.

Physical Requirements:

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to talk or hear. The employee frequently is required to sit and use hands to finger, handle, or feel. The employee is occasionally required to stand, walk, and climb or balance. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 10 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision. The employee must occasionally travel to meetings and conferences off campus, which may include some overnight travel.
