The Weather Forecaster shall provide detailed weather support in support of 24/7/365 MPC operations. Contractor shall also assist in the development and integration of relevant weather data into advanced systems and technologies. This role shall integrate all weather environmental data from a variety of sources to assess current and forecast weather environment in order to issue weather products, alert bulletins, and forecasts an anomaly assessment. This person shall perform quick-look and forensic assessments to determine the potential for weather impacts to operations. This role shall ensure the quality and timeliness of the production process utilizing data/product monitoring tools and assessing the impact to products due to missing or erroneous data. This includes validating and verifying weather models, products, and SOPs. Additionally, the Weather Forecaster shall ensure the quality (timeliness, accuracy) of responses to customer questions/requests for information. Duties include but are not limited to:

  • Analyze and evaluate meteorological data and prepares forecast products. Integrate weather analyses and reports with radar and satellite imagery interpretations to support operations. Brief aircrew and staff personnel on current and forecast weather and its effects on air operations. Instruct personnel on interpretation and use of meteorological products and their application to DoD missions. Perform global analysis and forecast duties at the MPC. Provide weather warnings, watches, and advisories for mission-limiting weather for designated military installations worldwide. Provide mission tailored forecasts for special and joint operations. Direct taking, recording, reporting, and decoding of meteorological and space weather observations, analysis of data, preparation of forecasts and other prognostic products and use of meteorological equipment. Produce and direct studies to improve forecasting techniques and abilities. Advise commanders and their staffs on capabilities and limitations of weather operations.

  • Conduct and direct meteorological, space weather, and geophysical research efforts. Prepare and adapt specialized forecast, climatology, and other weather information tailored for U-2 operations. Identify weather sensitivities and shortfalls, conduct testing of meteorological systems and equipment. Recommend modifications of instruments, equipment, and products to improve weather service to weapon systems and technologies. Prepare publications on observing, analyzing, and forecasting meteorological, solar, astrophysical, and geophysical parameters. Recommend changes in weather operations dictated by advances in military weapons/sensors, tactics, and doctrine. Provide meteorological consultation for research activities and direct gathering and preparing of data for specialized weather support activities. Develop and leverage environmental sensing strategies and capabilities to characterize the four-dimensional operational environment. Incorporate weather effects based on critical weather thresholds across the spectrum of mission profiles and into intelligence and operational preparation of the environment, command and control, and military decision making processes.

  • Provide technical meteorological services. Prepare and direct weather resources to support operational objectives.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Significant work experience in weather forecasting and/or meteorology.

  • At least one (1) weather forecaster will have, as a minimum, a Bachelor's degree in Meteorology.

  • Demonstrated experience with weather forecasting and tools.

  • Ability to quickly identify and respond to anomalous weather environments.

  • Detailed understanding of relevant weather statistics and prediction indicators.

  • Significant expertise in interpretation of weather satellite imagery, climatology reports, computerized weather prediction models, and Doppler weather radar imagery.

  • Significant expertise in analyzing various types of weather elements such as clouds, wind speed, fog, visibility, atmospheric pressure, etc.

  • Significant expertise in oceanographic, meteorological and space atmospheric conditions and hazards.

  • Significant experience operating real time weather programs and computer interfaces.

  • Significant Knowledge of the principles, concepts, and theories of meteorology, and the standard practices, methods, and techniques of the occupation sufficient to perform observations, forecasts, and analysis.

  • Knowledge of advanced analytical principles, concepts, and methods to produce detailed analyses of complex information/situations attained from multiple sources, to include database manipulation.

  • Knowledge of: Combat weather skills; characteristics and principles of atmospheric and space weather; observation, analysis, prediction, and dissemination of weather information; operation of fixed and deployable meteorological or space weather systems; weather communications systems; use of weather products; and operator maintenance of weather equipment and instruments.

  • Must possess an active Top Secret security clearance with SCI and SAP eligibility
