Responsibilities

Missile Systems is looking for a Weapon System Simulator (WSS) Technologist to design and develop novel missile/platform simulators for engineering laboratory and flight line test environments. WSS products will be used for aircraft-to-weapon integration and test for Missile Systems (MS) products. The WSS Technologist is an Engineering Fellow position within the Test Systems Solutions Center (TSSC) engineering center.

The individual will have the opportunity to:

  • Establish the technical roadmap for weapon and platform simulators across multiple weapon programs across all RMS product lines

  • Establish the WSS strategy for MS, developing and deploying weapon simulators and emulators

  • Serve as the technical expert and focal point for domestic and international WSS customers

  • Work with State-of-the-Art and Emerging Technologies

  • Mentor the Developers of Hardware and Software Designs

  • Influence other TSSC test environment designs through the reuse of WSS components

Job Description:

The Weapon System Simulator (WSS) Technologist candidate must have the ability to build and grow the MS product line of weapon emulators and simulators for aircraft/platform integration and test. Role expectations include: expert technical leadership to multidiscipline teams performing design, integration and validation of WSS products; responsible for defining and maintaining a WSS technology roadmap; creating and advancing the WSS test architecture approach; establishing WSS core designs to be used across all Raytheon programs; and engaging the customer base for future WSS contracts.

The successful applicant will be able to demonstrate relevant experience in test systems development, driving test efficacy, commonality, efficiency, and affordability into STE designs. The candidate will work with and through other technologists and all engineering disciplines, and be accountable for the technical content of WSS test subsystems through the entire development lifecycle. The Technologist should have experience in requirements and design development; leading and presenting in design reviews; authoring associated technical documents; and applying advanced technical knowledge to present and future simulator/emulator designs.

Required Skills:

  • Bachelor's Degree in Engineering, Science, Math or other relevant technical discipline

  • A minimum of 12+ years relevant professional engineering design experience with demonstrated technical knowledge and problem solving skills across multiple disciplines

  • Technical expertise in architecture, designing, manufacturing, integrating and maintaining laboratory/field weapon systems simulators and emulators used for integration with multiple platforms (F15, F16, F22, F35, etc.) on flight lines, integration labs, or other customer locations

  • Technical expertise in military aircraft/ship weapon and communication interfaces such as 1553, 1760, ASI / MSI, IRIG, UAI, and related.

  • Demonstrated work experience influencing staff, peers, senior leadership, and customers with excellent verbal and presentation skills

  • U.S. Citizenship

  • Ability to obtain a DoD Secret Clearance

Desired Skills:

  • Master's degree in Engineering, Science, Math or other relevant technical discipline.

  • 20+ years of years of relevant professional engineering design experience with a proven expertise in weapons system simulator and emulator architecture and development

  • Experience with lifecycle support including training and technical support to domestic and international customers

  • Knowledgeable in application of Model Based Engineering (MBE) tools and architecture

  • New business capture experience including customer interface, competitive proposal's technical volumes

  • Contribution or authoring of white papers, Patents, and Publications in related technical field

  • Risk and opportunity management experience

  • Active DoD Secret Clearance adjudicated within the past five years

The Navigation Systems Engineering Fellowwill apply knowledge of hardware/software in the areas of Global Positioning Systems (GPS), inertial sensors, integrated INS/GPS navigation, and technology alternatives to GPS. The Engineering Fellow will lead others in the development of technical solutions to complex navigation problems that require application of advanced technical principles. The role requires acting independently, as well as working with early career engineers, to uncover and resolve issues associated with development and implementation of navigation system designs. The Engineering Fellow will guide the successful completion of navigation development and integration efforts in a technical leadership capacity. The individual will represent the organization as a subject matter expert within the field of navigation and will interact with senior leadership to plan and execute programs to accomplish long-range objectives, while also helping to shape the strategic direction of technology to accomplish long-term objectives. Key Responsibilities (Essential Functions): * Provide technical leadership for navigation development activities and develop solutions to complex technical problems often involving multiple subsystem interactions * Apply knowledge of integrated Inertial Navigation System (INS) / Global Positioning System (GPS) subsystems to design, integrate and test software in simulation and real-time embedded systems * Assist with system design decisions involving trade studies, requirements allocation, and verification methods that involve navigation * Devise and implement algorithms and demonstrate performance results, including Kalman filters, strapdown algorithms, and alignment/initialization methods * Analyze system performance and associated risk assessments in simulation, hardware subsystem test, and flight test environments * Engage across engineering disciplines to ensure proper implementation and test of navigation designs and related flight hardware/software * Pursue advanced research and development funding both internal and external to Raytheon * Provide guidance, coaching / mentoring and training to other employees across the business within area of expertise.
