Please review the following job description:

Provide leadership and direction in the credit approval and risk management processes for the Bank's Direct to Consumer (DTC) portfolio, with a special emphasis on Wealth Division clients, including Ultra High Net-Worth individuals, and consumer requests for large commercial clients. Ensure balanced execution of the credit decisioning and risk management processes in order to maximize quality, profitability and growth across products within the Direct to Consumer segment. Ensure balance of being responsive to clients, driving revenue, engaging associates, and delivering superior underwriting performance that supports the Bank's risk appetite. Serve as senior leader for the group in the absence of the manager.

Responsibilities:

  • Provide guidance, coaching, and leadership to DTC underwriting staff and Wealth Division teammates to ensure the highest standards of underwriting skills possible. Provide direct management to Wealth Lending Solutions Officers. Effectively and consistently execute upon strategies and processes to maximize lending and risk management opportunities that meet the Bank's risk and profitability standards. Coach the underwriting staff to grow and develop in their leadership skills by serving as mentors to credit teams within the department. Cultivate values such as "Independent Thinking, Reason and Reality" within the Wealth credit team in order to develop skill sets so that credit decisions are based on client's overall financial situation as well as defined risk management policies.

  • Successfully manage multiple underwriting teams with varying product and segment skill sets to ensure consistent execution related to policy, procedures and client experience.

  • Maintain specialty lending knowledge and expertise to include but not limited to large marine and securities lending. Continue a working knowledge of commercial underwriting standards to ensure commercial clients are properly served via the consumer channel.

  • Personally decision large, complex, credit requests, including modifications and subordinations, exceeding the lending authorities of the underwriting and portfolio management staff, based upon established policies and procedures, while providing adequate documentation and justification for decisions representing exceptions to policy or procedure.

  • Provide guidance to other Underwriting Managers regarding complex income scenarios, underwriting methodologies, policy interpretation, underwriting efficiencies, and mitigating risk with approvals reaching the outer bounds of the Bank's risk appetite.

  • Develop and strong working relationship with Regional leadership, Wealth leadership, Legal, Compliance, Commercial leadership and Wealth Lending teammates in order to take full advantage of the support to those teams and functions. Provide clear feedback to various leaders in order to collaborate on potential process improvements, as well as provide direct guidance and support to lenders, as appropriate.

  • Continually evaluate the effectiveness of policies and procedures and communicate regularly with various leaders to identify trends or concerns developing within the retail portfolio.

  • Add value to the entire Direct to Consumer department from a strategic standpoint by providing underwriting expertise related to product suite development, underwriting tools and processes designed to maximize productivity, growth and profitability while maintaining appropriate risk parameters.

  • Assist in consumer lending audits, compliance reviews and examinations and make recommendations to further strengthen the effectiveness of underwriting standards.

  • Evaluate workflows from a systems and technology standpoint and serve as liaison to appropriate IT and communication personnel in order to make recommendations and take full advantage of available technical enhancements that could provide benefits.

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in business-related field, or equivalent educations and related training.

  • 15+ years of financial services experience with strong emphasis in loan administration and credit risk management.

  • Understanding of complex personal and business tax returns, cash flow analysis, trust agreements and other legal documentation utilized in complex lending situations and have demonstrated experience effectively underwriting crafted solutions to meet client financial needs.

  • Excellent leadership skills, including the ability lead direct and indirect reports; excellent communication (verbal and written), presentation and facilitation skills with the ability to interact and communicate within all levels of the organization and within public sector/governmental agencies.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Master's degree in Business related field

  • Graduate of Bank Leadership Development Program

  • Mortgage, Consumer and Commercial lending experience
