WDVA is excited to announce we are now accepting applications from current employees for our Registered Nurse 3, Evening Shift Supervisor at the Washington Veterans Home!

Please Note: This is an internal recruitment open only to current Washington State Department of Veterans Affairs employees. The expected shift for this position is 1:00 p.m. to 11:30 p.m., Sunday through Tuesday.

  • This position has been posted within the assigned pay range through Step L. Step M has not been published as this is considered the longevity step, in alignment with state HR compensation rules.

Position(s) at this location will also receive 5% Premium Pay for facilities open twenty-four hours per day. Employees must physically work at the facility 3 days per workweek to qualify. The 5% Premium Pay is in effect until June 29th, 2025.

In addition, we provide critical community services through a variety of programs, and at our four State Veterans Homes located in Orting, Port Orchard, Spokane, and Walla Walla. These locations provide Medicare and Medicaid nursing home care to Veterans, including, in some instances, their spouses, widows, or Gold Star Families.

As the Registered Nurse 3, Evening Shift Supervisor, you will lead, support, and manage evening shift nursing personnel to ensure the maximum quality of care and a safe, caring environment for our residents. Your role is critical to the promotion of care that emphasizes dignity, choice, and growth for residents and employees.

Some of what you'll do:

  • Ensure that nursing personnel are competent to provide skilled nursing care by arranging for and ensuring attendance in orientation, in-service and continuing education, and completion of orientation to duty checklists.

  • Facilitate personal and professional growth through employee development and training.

  • Manage facility-wide staffing on a specific shift to meet the needs of the facility's residents through recruiting, selecting, hiring, evaluating, assigning, and scheduling of nursing staff in collaboration with other facility supervisors and nursing department.

  • Complete job performance evaluations for licensed staff and support licensed staff in supervising, guiding, counseling, and job performance evaluations for nursing assistants.

  • Participate in Nursing Management team activities to include development, review, revision, and implementation of department, facility, and nursing policies and procedures, infection control, improving nursing organizational performance, investigations, incident follow-LIQ, and any function that contributes to the quality of care for our residents.

  • Manage nursing operations for the specific shift assigned, to include admission, discharge resident transfers, emergency response, staff meetings and training, etc.

Required:

  • Current Washington State registered nurse license OR unencumbered registered nurse multistate license.

  • Three (3) years of professional nursing experience.

  • Ability to:

  • Demonstrate accurate methods and practices of nursing and restorative care, personal hygiene and sanitation methods, recordkeeping, infection control procedures, and resident rights.

  • Provide a positive living environment for residents relating to meeting psychosocial needs, follow written and verbal directions, and document and report observed changes in patient condition and behavior.

  • Assess, evaluate, and participate in the development of appropriate plans of care.

  • Document appropriate discharge planning for residents when appropriate.

  • Set priorities under challenging and changing circumstances.

  • Coordinate, delegate, and collaborate with the interdisciplinary team.

  • Must have:

  • Excellent professional nursing practice and patient care skills.

  • Strong analytical and critical thinking skills, as well as long-term knowledge to include regulatory requirements.

  • Good interpersonal and communication skills, both verbal and written, and strong organizational and computer skills with a mastery of Microsoft Outlook, Word, Access, and Excel.

Preferred/Desired:

  • Currently holds a valid registered nurse license from the State of Washington.

  • Bachelor's degree involving major study in nursing.

  • Supervisory experience.

  • Experience working on an interdisciplinary team serving residents with dementia diagnoses.

  • Long-term car experience.

  • Knowledge of State and Federal regulations and guidelines for resident assessment.

  • Knowledge of Resident Assessment instrument process and Care Planning.

Special Requirements:

  • Must be able pass a DSHS BCCU Background Check every two (2) years in accordance with WDVA Policy 615.000 Background Checks. Information from the background check will not necessarily preclude employment but will be considered in determining the applicant's suitability and competence to perform in the position.

  • Must comply with annual Tuberculin Screening in accordance with DVA policy 670.000 Tuberculosis Testing.

  • Requires medical evaluation, fit testing, training, and use of respiratory protection as required by the Washington Industrial Safety and Act standards. Must be able to wear a respirator, medical gloves, gowns, eye protection, and other personal protection as required by a job or task.

  • Must be able to lift up to 60 lbs. and be capable of reaching a minimum of 36" using proper technique to stock shelves and access supplies. Employee must also be able to push or pull with sufficient strength and walk, sit, and bend in an unrestricted manner during the entire workday.

  • Must have the ability to speak, read, and write in the English language for medical charts and data entry.

  • Must maintain a valid RN license and provide from the State of Washington Department of Health.

  • Positions requiring travel must have a valid unrestricted driver's license and must be insured if driving a privately owned vehicle on state business.
