This position is based in beautiful Port Orchard, Washington and provides resident pharmacy services requirements for our four nursing homes serving Veterans in Port Orchard, Orting, Walla Walla, and Spokane. Please Note: The shift for this position is 7:30 a.m. to 6:00 p.m., Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, and Friday. Incumbent may be required to work overtime as needed to support resident and business needs.

  • This position has been posted within the assigned pay range through Step L. Step M has not been published as this is considered the longevity step, in alignment with state HR compensation rules.

Position(s) at this location will also receive 5% Premium Pay for facilities open twenty four hours per day. Employees must physically work at the facility 3 days per workweek to qualify. The 5% Premium Pay is in effect until June 29th, 2025.

These locations provide Medicare and Medicaid nursing home care to honorably discharged Veterans, including, in some instances, their spouses, widows, or Gold Star Families.

As the Pharmacist 2, you will apply agency policies and procedures to achieve cost-effective, efficient delivery of medications to residents while utilizing pharmaceutical care models for the proper use of medications. You will also work with facility staff to provide medication information and consultative services, resident chart reviews, and periodic audits of medication accountability and control procedures.

Some of what you will enjoy doing:

  • Utilizing computer software to process prescriptions and maintain personnel files.

  • Inputting new prescriptions, refilling request processing, and billing appropriate entities (including resolution of electronic claim rejections).

  • Routinely reviewing order entries for completeness, drug/drug interactions, drug/disease interactions, allergies, medication doses, and treatment regimens.

  • Checking filled prescriptions for filling accuracy and appropriate labeling and packaging for resident and staff use.

  • Supervising and reviewing tasks performed by pharmacy technicians.

  • Facilitating the delivery and shipment of completed prescriptions.

  • Conducting reviews of resident charts and making appropriate recommendations to prescribers, nurses, social workers, and other facility staff.

  • Participating with physicians and other healthcare professionals as a consultant on pharmacotherapeutics.

  • Providing drug information, including literature retrieval and critical evaluation.

Required:

  • Current Washington State Pharmacist License with completion of required Continuing Education.

Preferred/Desired:

  • Experience with Microsoft Teams, Word, and Outlook applications.

  • Knowledge of pharmacy standards of practice and pharmacy laws and regulations.

  • Ability to handle interruptions and prioritize workload.

  • Ability to maintain accurate records and implement organizational skills.

Other Information:

  • Prior to a new hire, a background check, including criminal record history, will be conducted. Information from the background check will not necessarily preclude employment but will be considered in determining the applicant's suitability and competence to perform in the position.

  • Must maintain a valid pharmacist license from the Washington State Department of Health and completion of required Continuing Education.

  • Must have the ability to lift/push/pull occasionally up to 40 lbs.

  • Requires use of personal protective equipment as required by the Washington Industrial Safety & Act Standards for pharmacy operations and to perform pharmacy tasks. Must be able to wear a respirator, medical gloves, gowns, eye protection, and other personal protection as required by a job or task.

  • Must comply with health screening requirements by undergoing a tuberculosis skin test.

  • Positions requiring travel must have a valid unrestricted driver's license and must be insured if driving a privately owned vehicle on state business.
