The Shorelands & Environmental Assistance (SEA) program within the Department of Ecology is looking to fill a WCC Training and Development Coordinator (Environmental Planner 3) position.  This position can be located in the following offices:

Headquarters Office in Lacey, WA.

Northwest Region Office (NWRO) in Shoreline, WA.

Central Region Office (CRO) in Union Gap, WA.

Eastern Region Office (ERO) in Spokane, WA.

Upon hire, you must live within a commutable distance from the duty station.

Please Note: If the final location of this position is determined to be in our Northwest Region Office (NWRO) in Shoreline, WA. there will be an additional 5% pay increase due to its location in King County. In this instance the salary range will be $5,608 - $7,543 per month.

In this role, you will be leading the development and delivery of quarterly training opportunities for corps members in the WCC. You will be responsible for the development of the WCC's Career Development plan for members and will develop resources & supports for members, crew supervisors, partners and program support staff to be effective in achieving this goal.

Program Mission: The mission of the Shorelands and Environmental Assistance Program is to create community conservation partnerships to protect and restore our shorelands, wetlands, and floodplains.

Washington Conservation Corps (WCC) is an AmeriCorps program within SEA that creates future leaders through community involvement and mentorship. We have more than 350 members and experienced staff statewide who restore critical habitat, build trails, and respond to local and national disasters. Through AmeriCorps, WCC provides hands-on experience, field skills, and training opportunities to young adults (between age 18 and 25) and military veterans. 

Please Note: This is a project position that is funded until 09/30/2025. The Funding for this position has a high probability of being renewed.

What makes this role unique?

In this role, you will collaborate closely with WCC's Field Operations Team as well as our primary audience of 18-25 year olds. You will get to develop, implement and access training plans and field supports for our program.

They are a vital position to the achievement of WCC's mission. Our training program focuses on ensuring safety, inclusion and career development for our members, field staff and program support staff, as well as building connections across the conservation and environmental sector here in WA State.

What you will do:

  • Develop, implement and access training plans for the WCC

  • Facilitate training events

  • Coordinate training contracts and payables

  • Coordinate WCC's Production Database

  • Contribute to annual program planning

  • Develop resources to support career development for corps members

  • Build relationships with conservation, environmental and natural resources organizations

Required Qualifications:

Years of required experience indicated below are full-time equivalent years. Full-time equivalent experience means that any experience where working hours were less than 40 hours per week will be prorated in order to meet the equivalency of full-time.

We would calculate this by looking at the total hours worked per week, divide this by 40, and then multiply by the total number of months worked. Examples of the proration calculations are:

  • 30 hours worked per week for 20 months: (30/40) x 20 months = 15 months full-time equivalent
  • 20 hours worked per week for 12 months: (20/40) x 12 months = 6 months full-time equivalent

Experience for both required and desired qualifications can be gained through various combinations of formal professional employment, education, and volunteer experience. See below for how you may qualify.

Option One:

A Bachelor's degree with major emphasis in environmental or natural resource management or planning, socioecological or environmental science, regional or land use planning, environmental law, environmental science, public administration with an environmental emphasis, or closely related field.

AND

Four years of professional experience in facilitating environmental education, or career development programs, and/or program development.

Options Two:

A Master's degree or above with major emphasis in environmental or natural resource management or planning, socioecological or environmental science, regional or land use planning, environmental law, environmental science, public administration with an environmental emphasis, or closely related field.

AND

Two years of professional experience in facilitating environmental education, or career development programs, and/or program development.

Option Three:

One year of experience as an Environmental Planner 2, at the Department of Ecology.

Special Requirements/Conditions of Employment:

  • Must possess a valid Driver's License.

  • Must not be registered, or required to register, with the National Sex Offender Public Registry.

  • Must successfully pass a criminal history background check.

Desired Qualifications:

  • Three years of experience in program development or assessment.

  • Experience working with natural resource agencies, with national service programs, or in workforce development.

  • Program and workshop facilitation skills, experience conducting needs assessments.
