Job Summary
As the Water/Waste Water Operator you will learn to and/or perform routine and emergency maintenance and repair on the Purdue water distribution system under the direction of certified water operators. This position requires completion of mandatory waterworks certification within 30 months. This position is subject to 24-hour callback, planned and unplanned overtime, and flextime is required.
On the job training provided and all job-related class's are paid for to assist in obtaining required license's.
This is a dual position where the hiring manager will determine the level for the candidate.
What We're Looking For:
Education and Experience Needed:
As the SK1 position you will need:
High School Degree or High School Equivalency (HSE)
Some experience in one of the following areas:
water distribution, wastewater collection, plumbing, metering, or backflow prevention
Must have and maintain a valid Driver's License and must be able to obtain a CDL license
As the SK2 position you will need the following:
High School Degree or High School Equivalency (HSE)
Three (3)years of experience in one of the following: water distribution, wastewater collection, plumbing, metering, or backflow prevention
Must have Knowledge of AWWA (American Water Works Association) standards
Indiana Water Works/Wastewater Operator Certifications WT2 (Water Treatment), DSL(Distribution System Large) certification required
Demonstrated ability for continuing education and training required
Must work well in a team environment
Skills in sampling and disinfecting techniques required
Preferred:
Skills Needed:
Ability to perform basic mathematical equations
Computer skills including familiarity with word processing, spreadsheet, and database applications
Basic blueprint reading skills
Must:
acquire Indiana Water Works Operator Certifications WT-2 and DSL (Distribution System Large) certification within 30 months of employment
have the ability to continue education and training
have good verbal communication skills
have a high mechanical aptitude, with the ability to learn to operate the water distribution system under the direct guidance of certified water operators
be able to lift and carry 50 to 80 lbs. frequently, and up to 100 plus lbs. occasionally
