Job Summary

AECOM is actively seeking a creative, highly talented Engineer III, Civil Engineeringfor immediate employment in the Roanoke, VA office.

The responsibilities of this position include, but are not limited to:

  • Provide technical support for a variety of water and wastewater system related projects, including pumping stations, pipeline and collection systems, and treatment facility planning, design and construction administration

  • Coordinate multi-discipline design efforts

  • Support project managers in execution of all types of water and wastewater system projects

  • Support client-related activities, including marketing and proposal development

Minimum Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree in Civil engineering, or related engineering field

  • 5+ years of experience in the planning and design of Stormwater Management facilities, including project analysis, feasibility and budgeting required

  • Registration as an Engineer-In-Training

  • Technical proficiency in civil engineering design and analysis, including hydraulic analysis, water line and sewer line design, booster and lift stations, treatment works, site design and erosion and sediment control.

  • Proficient with CAD and design software (Civil 3D, Bentley Design Suites, Water CAD, Sewer CAD, ARC GIS, etc)

  • Proficient use of PC-based applications ( MS Word, Excel, Access)

  • Motivated, hardworking team player with attention to detail

  • Experience working with local and state permit agencies

  • Strong written and oral communication, quantitative and interpersonal skills

  • Strong work ethic and professional demeanor

  • Proactive on assignments and demonstrate initiative

  • Must work independently with minimal supervision, and complete multiple technical tasks under tight deadlines

  • Due to the nature of this work, U.S. citizenship is required

  • Must possess a valid driver's license

Preferred Qualifications

  • Master's degree in Civil or Environmental Engineering

  • Professional Engineer registration

  • Hydraulic modeling experience

  • Experience working for local and/or federal water/wastewater agencies

VIEW JOBS 11/3/2018 12:00:00 AM 2019-02-01T00:00 Description The City of Roanoke is seeking a temporary Civil Engineer I - Biological Systems for our Stormwater Division of Public Works. This position share knowledgeable and passionate about sustainability and environmental challenges, specifically land-use changes that negatively affect water quality. Duties may include retrofit design of stormwater best management practices (BMPs), use of phytoremediation and ecological principles for stormwater CIP projects, outfall disconnections, curb cuts and extensions, and stream restoration project management. This position may also conduct Bank Erosion Hazard Index (BEHI), delineate MS4 outfalls and SW BMPs and manage projects included in Watershed Master Plans and/or TMDL Action Plans. Additionally, this position may conduct plan reviews for projects located in City's floodplain. The successful candidate will take initiative by identifying, researching and seeking out optimal design solutions and executing good follow-through. Bachelor's degree with environmental concentration, watershed science, or biological systems engineer from a four-year college or university recognized by the Commonwealth of Virginia Registration board for Architects and Engineers; at least one year professional experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience in water quality/environmental science and environmental engineering. Recognition as an Engineer-in-training in the Commonwealth of Virginia preferred. Must possess a valid driver's permit issued by the Commonwealth of Virginia. Current or pursuing Floodplain Manager certification, Envision Sustainability Professional (ENV SP) certification from the Institute for Sustainable Infrastructure (ISI) and/or natural channel design and assessment preferred. Examples of Duties SUMMARY Performs work in the planning, scheduling, survey, design construction, inspection and maintenance of a variety of projects; provide engineering services for contract management, construction projects, building use reassignment evaluations, and system maintenance. ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned. Prepares designs, plans, specifications and cost estimates for assigned projects in areas of professional land survey, design, drafting, erosion and sediment control and storm water management design Manages architectural/engineering consultants in the preparation of designs, plans, specifications and cost estimates for assigned projects Manages construction of assigned projects from bid evaluation through project close-out; reviews design plans and construction/installation schedules; attends planning and construction progress meetings and prepares meeting minutes; performs site inspections to assure compliance with project specifications, building codes, and other regulations Meets with project coordinators, such as consulting engineers, City representatives, and contractors; determines projected needs/use levels according to established models; coordinates operations schedules; prepares progress reports Maintains logs, tracking systems, and specialized databases; enters, retrieves, and analyzes data; prepares reports; enters routine, technical, and specialized data into department computer system; generates routine documents, such as correspondence, electronic mail, requisitions and purchase orders Engages in engineering research SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES Supervises an assigned staff in the completion of projects.
