NTT DATA Services currently seeks a Waterfront Submarine Calibration Coordinator to join our team in Groton, Connecticut (US-CT), United States (US).

The Waterfront Submarine Calibration Coordinator is the local waterfront representative for calibration. This person serves as the point of contact for matters associated with upkeep planning and execution of all calibration items for assigned units.

Roles and Responsibilities:

  • Maintain the Metbench Cal Management System (MCMS) calibration database current for all CSS-4, CSDS-12, and CSG-2 units.

  • Update LMA dates, enter new component data, and delete obsolete entries.

  • Call down appropriate Maintenance Routines in MCMS for accomplishment.

  • Liaison with Ship's Calibration Coordinators to ensure timely database updates and resolution of calibration issues.

  • Prioritize calibration shop workload to match operational needs of supported units.

  • Assist SUBMEPP in Calibration Validation activities, including validations in locations other than Groton.

  • Assist in execution of Consolidated Test, Measurement, and Diagnostic Equipment (TMDE) Readiness Assessments (CTRA) and post-assessment functions as directed by SUBMEPP.

  • Assist SUBFOR Submarine Maintenance Programs Representative in the execution of ship's 3M system assessments.

  • Provide training to submarine crews concerning the calibration program.

For SSNIPI (SSN Inventory of PMR Items):

  • Perform uploads from SSNIPI capable units and verify data is correct.

  • Provide MCMS downloads on portable media to SSNIPI capable units.

  • Provide SSNIPI training to other Calibration Shop personnel and oversight when they are executing SSNIPI uploads or downloads.

Typical Education

  • High School diploma or GED equivalent. Navy Submarine School, Nuclear Power School or Naval Shipyard Apprentice Programs meet the education requirement. Navy rate of E6 in a technical rating satisfies the education requirement.

Experience:

  • Typically requires at least 6 years relevant experience without a Degree; 2+ years relevant experience with Undergraduate Degree; 1+ years relevant experience with Graduate Degree

Required Experience & Skills

  • Active Secret clearance required

  • 4+ years experience in the maintenance and/or operation of electronic/electrical systems, auxiliary or propulsion systems for Navy ships or submarines. This experience has been accumulated while on active duty in the Navy or in a Naval or private shipyard.

  • Additional 2 years of experience in Navy HM&E or Combat Weapons System components required

  • At least 1 year of this experience required in as follows: PMS use, or revision or development; or Maintenance Standard and Test Programs use or revision or development; or Supply and Material Programs. Demonstrated capability in Material Database Research and familiarity with Material Programs

Desired Skills

  • 4+ years knowledge of the calibration requirements and procedures for installed instrumentation, Ship/Shore Electrical/Electronics Test Equipment Requirements List (SPETERL) and Navy Planned Maintenance System (PMS).

  • 4+ years familiarity with existing calibration recall systems and programs in use at NSSF New London, CT.

  • Qualification in submarines while active duty in the Navy.

  • 3-M Coordinator, Calibration Coordinator or Work Center Supervisor on a submarine.

  • Windows and Microsoft Office PC software user.

Environmental Hazards

  • Frequent presence onboard a submarine is required, sometimes while the ship is in an industrial environment.

Physical Requirements

  • Physical ability to work onboard a ship, climb ladders, inspect hard to reach areas. Some infrequent travel is required

Job Description Department 474 (D474) Non-Nuclear Maintenance and Repair Construction Engineering is an integral part of Electric Boat's Maintenance and Modernization business. With this business, Electric Boat provides mission-ready submarines to the fleet through maintenance, modernization, alterations and improvements. D474 engineers provide non-nuclear engineering support for maintenance and alteration activities on submarines, including the planning, execution, and certification of work. D474 routinely develops technical work documents (TWDs), provides technical direction and oversight, and evaluates shipboard conditions. A multi-discipline group comprised of mechanical, structural, and electrical engineers, D474 Engineering operates in a collaborative, dynamic, team-oriented manner. Using a design-build approach, D474 interfaces with Operations, Design, Planning Yard, Test, and Program Office personnel in order to arrive at innovative solutions to difficult problems. Additionally, interaction with the United States Navy (USN) customer is typical, including the Supervisor of Shipbuilding Groton (SOSG), Naval Sea Systems Command (NAVSEA), and submarine crews. D474 Engineering supports submarine overhaul work locally and remotely. ABET-accredited educational backgrounds (BS and/or MS, or equivalent) are instrumental. Strong written and verbal communication skills are utilized and fostered. A hands-on, proactive, deadline-driven engineering approach is the norm. Awareness and understanding of military specifications, submarine shipbuilding specifications and design criteria, USN maintenance/overhaul requirements, and special emphasis programs are developed through mentoring and training. As D474 engineers solve problems on the ship as well as in the office, effective use of personal protective equipment and adherence to safety regulations are necessary. D474 electrical engineers are responsible for developing TWDs, providing technical direction and oversight, and resolving shipboard problems associated with the following: * Submarine non-propulsion electronic systems (NPES), including fly-by-wire ship control, fire control, navigation, sonar, strain gage instrumentation etc. * Submarine hull, mechanical, and electrical (HM&E) systems, including control, indication, power distribution, interior communications, fiber-optic data distribution, electromechanical actuation, etc. Tasks required of the D474 electrical engineer include, but are not limited to, the following: * Planning of submarine maintenance and modernization work. This includes the development of work breakdown structures and the authoring of technical work documents. * Interpretation and translation of shipbuilding specifications, maintenance requirements, and contractual requirements. * Deck-plate support and resolution of emergent issues. * Development of technical rationale to support approval of nonconforming conditions. * Collaboration with engineers of other disciplines, including mechanical and structural. Overtime is required. Evening and/or weekend work is required based on department needs. Travel is required based on department needs.
