SALARY RANGE: $60,877.00 - $94,499.00 Annually

EDUCATION ACCREDITATION: Applicant's education must be obtained from an accredited institution.

Education credentials obtained out of the US must be evaluated for US equivalency. Evaluation agencies information may be obtained at www.naces.org.

ELIGIBILITY: Qualified candidates will be considered for vacancies as they arise, for a period of at least six months. The decision of the Director of Human Resources with respect to acceptable minimum qualifications is final.

CRIMINAL BACKGROUND CHECK: Eligible candidates under final consideration for appointment to this position identified as positions of trust will be required to authorize the release of and successfully complete a Fingerprint check.

PROBATION: All persons, including current City employees, selected from this position will be on probation for 6 months.

CLASS DESCRIPTION

A Waste Water Technician Supervisor I Pumping supervises and participates in the operation and inspection of pumps, valves, bar screens and other waste water pumping station equipment on a shift. Work of this class involves supervising waste water operations technicians.

Incumbents receive moderate supervision from a technical superior. Employees in this class work a rotating shift with evening, night, weekend, holiday and callback hours as required or held over until properly relieved or for emergencies.

Work is performed in a waste water pumping station where there is regular exposure to toxic chemicals, noxious odors and high voltage equipment. Work requires moderate physical exertion.

SELECTION PROCESS

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

On or before the date of filing the application, each candidate must:

EDUCATION: Graduation from an accredited high school or possession of a GED certificate.

AND

EXPERIENCE: 4 years of experience in the operation, maintenance and minor repair of water or waste water pumping equipment.

LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS AND CERTIFICATES: A valid Maryland Class C Noncommercial driver's license, or an equivalent out-of-state driver's license acceptable to the Office of Risk Management is required.

Employees in this class must hold and maintain a valid State of Maryland Permanent Operator's Certificate Wastewater Collection Class 2, issued by the Board of Waterworks and Waste Systems Operators, throughout employment..

NOTE: Employees must be able to wear respirators and self-contained breathing apparatus due to environmental issues.

KNOWLEDGES, SKILLS AND ABILITIES

  • Knowledge of the operation, maintenance and minor repair of pumps, motors and related equipment.

  • Knowledge of waste water pumping systems.

  • Knowledge of Maryland State and Federal regulatory requirements pertaining to transference of wastewater sewage.

  • Knowledge of safety practices and procedures.

  • Ability to review records for accuracy and completeness.

  • Ability to interpret gauge and meter indications.

  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relations with others.

  • Ability to communicate effectively orally and in writing.

  • Ability to maintain records and write reports.

  • Ability to use computerized remote control devices.

  • Supervisory ability.

EXAMINATION PROCESS
