Job Summary
Water Utilities Mechanic I
$21.69/hour to $30.37/hour
The incumbent is responsible for repair and maintenance of the Water Treatment Plant, Wastewater Treatment Plant and Lift Stations equipment, electrical, and associated systems and equipment. May be required to perform plant-operating duties as directed by management.
Water Utilities Mechanic II
$23.91/hour to $33.47/hour
Responsible for repair and maintenance of the Water Treatment Plant, Wastewater Treatment Plant and Lift Stations equipment, electrical and associated systems and equipment. May be required to perform plant-operating duties as directed by management.
Essential Functions
Water Utilities Mechanic I
1.Diagnoses, troubleshoots and repairs Water Plant, Wastewater Plant and Lift Stations.
2.Maintains a schedule and performs preventive maintenance of systems at the Water Plant, Wastewater
Plant and Lift Station facilities.
3.Maintains records of supplies, parts and materials used.
4.Maintains operational equipment including plumbing, electrical and pumping equipment and SCADA
control panels.
5.Purchases equipment, materials and parts to keep plant in operation.
6.Required to assist when needed at wastewater plant, water plant, or collection /distribution divisions and
assist with on call coverage in the departments.
7.Performs related duties as directed when such duties are a logical and appropriate assignment to the
position.
8.Regular and timely attendance are required for this position.
9.Interacts professionally and respectfully with the public, coworkers and others in the course of daily
work.
Water Utilities Mechanic II
1.Diagnoses, troubleshoots and repairs Water Plant, Wastewater Plant and Lift Stations.
2.Maintains a schedule and performs preventive maintenance of systems at the Water Plant, Wastewater Plant and Lift Station facilities.
3.Provides second level of supervision for maintenance in the absence of the Lift Station Supervisor.
4.Maintains records of supplies, parts and materials used.
5.Maintains operational equipment including plumbing, electrical and pumping equipment and SCADA control panels.
6.Purchases equipment, materials and parts to keep plant in operation.
7.Required to assist when needed at wastewater plant, water plant, or collection / distribution divisions and assist with on call coverage in the departments.
8.Performs related duties as directed when such duties are a logical and appropriate assignment to the position.
9.Regular and timely attendance are required for this position.
Assists in training of Utility Mechanic I.

SKILLS, KNOWLEDGE AND ABILITIES
Water Utilities Mechanic I
Must be able to read and interpret blueprints and drawings, and interpret electrical and electronics schematics.
Position requires effective oral and written communication skills.
Must be able to make simple mathematical calculations.
Must have physical ability to perform assigned tasks, lift a minimum of 55 pounds, and work at various heights above the ground and during adverse weather conditions.
Must be a team player who is able to work in a fast-paced environment with deadlines.
Ability to provide excellent customer services including a desire to help customers regardless of their circumstance.
Ability to effectively communicate information and ideas in writing, as well as through speech, so others will understand.
Ability to write clear and accurate reports and correspondence.
Ability to work independently and with minimal supervision.

Must be able to demonstrate the ability to plan and execute a plant project assigned to them by Management. This project shall exhibit the ability of the candidate to procure proper supplies and personnel needed to successfully carry out the assigned project. Candidate will show ability to initiate, plan, and execute project with limited supervision.
Must be able to generate and maintain reports required for efficient operation and maintenance of treatment plants and/or lift stations.
Must demonstrate ability to perform electrical testing and diagnostics with all types of voltage including 3 phase up to 480 volts with various testing equipment.
EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE AND OTHER REQUIREMENTS
Water Utilities Mechanic I
Requires High School Diploma or equivalent plus one (1) year of experience in operation and maintenance/repair of treatment plant and/or lift station equipment or possession of any equivalent combination of education, training, and/or experience which provides the requisite knowledge, skills, and abilities to successfully perform the essential functions of the job.
Knowledgeable of the Texas Commission on Environmental Quality (TCEQ) and Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) regulations.
Must be able to obtain Class C Wastewater Treatment or C Water Treatment License issued by the Texas Commission on Environmental Quality (TCEQ) within 18 months of employment and have both licenses within 24 months of employment.
Must pass a Federal/National criminal background check. Must have a valid Texas driver's license with an acceptable driving record as defined by City policy.
Must pass a pre-employment basic physical, drug screen, pulmonary function test, Ishihara vision screening, and functional assessment screening (Level 2).
Water Utilities Mechanic II
Requires High School Diploma or GED.
Must have 2.5 year of experience in operation and maintenance/repair of treatment plant and/or lift station equipment or possession of any equivalent combination of education, training, and experience which provides the requisite knowledge, skills, and abilities to successfully perform the essential functions of the job.
Position requires a minimum of two years of experience in operating a Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition (SCADA) system including troubleshooting of the system.
