As our water treatment supervisor, you will supervise a team of water treatment technicians, help operate the industrial wastewater treatment plant (WTP), a multi-facility storm water collection system, two domestic wastewater treatment plants, two potable water filtration and disinfecting plants, and other equipment as required. Your contributions will help ensure ongoing success of Greens Creek's ability to operate in a safe and environmentally responsible manner.

The Greens Creek Mine, located on Admiralty Island 18 miles south of Juneau, is an underground polymetallic mine operating since 1989, employing approximately 500 people. Here's what you can expect in this role:

  • Use an advanced level of understanding of water treatment operations to oversee and help with the running of the industrial wastewater treatment plant, a multi-facility storm water collection system, domestic wastewater treatment plants, potable water filtration and disinfecting plants, and other equipment effectively in the day-to-day operations here at Greens Creek.

  • Ensure compliance with regulatory standards, permits, and plans as related to water operations and the treatment plant.

  • Supervise a team of water treatment technicians providing operations guidance, assistance, and completing supervisory duties.

  • Conducts sampling and other operations required to maintain compliant plant performance. Monitoring and adjusting process controls to regulate water treatment systems. Conducts pressure testing on process water lines.

  • Monitor and conduct investigations relating to the operations of the treatment plants, making recommendations, and implementing environmental regulatory compliance actions as necessary.

  • Recruit, train, and manage the successful performance of the water operations staff.

  • Identify opportunities for improvement and implement necessary changes.

  • Manage budgetary allocations for staffing, equipment, and materials.

  • Make process related decisions to maximize treatment options.

  • Conducts required inspections and maintains logs. Creates work orders to direct maintenance work when required. Works with maintenance department to ensure work is completed.

  • Collects Alaska Pollution Discharge Elimination System (APDES) WTP sampling.

  • Conducts and coordinates summer dredging operations to ensure sediment levels remain low in stormwater collection systems.

  • Evaluate new chemical requests as they relate to WTP operations.

  • Coordinates tasks and maintains a relationship with the surface operations department attending biweekly weekly, and project meetings.

  • Will create and implement an operational maintenance program for annual cleanouts, changeouts, and any additional work for the water operations technicians to improve reliability of equipment and life.

  • Participate in the development and maintenance of wastewater records and reports.

  • Coordinate with other departments, agencies, and organizations as needed. Coordinate to ensure water operation technicians have and/or are striving for required certifications.

  • Monitors, in conjunction with maintenance staff, all mechanical equipment and systems required for plant operations and related apparatus. Must understand industrial process controls and water related systems. A background in water treatment and/or Alaska DEC certification for any of the four-state regulated water/wastewater classifications is preferred but not required.

  • Ensures the Pond 7/10 Operations, Maintenance, and Surveillance (OMS) Manual is followed, inspections completed, and plan is updated when required.

  • Makes compliance related decisions about stormwater routing on an event specific basis.

  • Stay informed about industry trends and developments to incorporate best practices into operations.

  • Ensure documentation is maintained and upgrades data storage to digital format.

  • Must be able to work within a team environment and contribute to all safety and improvement related processes.

  • Updates water treatment procedures, learns and complies with company policy, safety procedures, maintains high level of housekeeping, and equipment operating standards; maintains attendance and safety within company specifications; knows basic emergency communication procedures; knows and complies with the Code of Conduct and the Employee Handbook (HR, Safety and Environmental).

  • Other duties may be assigned.
