Position is to provide support to the Yak chemical precipitation water treatment plant and ancillary support facilities. Position is to provide services necessary to operate, repair, or maintain the Water Treatment Plant and support facilities.

Essential Duties

Work activities shall include each of the following:

Support the Yak Water Treatment Plant operations :

  • Maintain chemical reagent material balances

  • Measure flow and water levels

  • Maintain operational log sheets

  • Operate the filter press

  • Secure loaded transport trailer for shipping (cover, tarp load)

Maintenance of the plant and support facilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Replace and maintain equipment, controls, and vehicles- including greasing equipment, changing equipment oil, changing and repairing motors/equipment, and repositioning pit pumps

  • Operation of the filter press, including cleaning of the press and building

  • Clean water treatment facility

  • Clean sludge and lime lines and valves related to plant operation

  • Measure lime levels in the lime silo

  • Measure sludge levels in the clarifiers

The above duties and responsibilities are representative of the nature and level of work assigned and are not necessarily all-inclusive.

Training & Experience

  • 2+ years of water treatment plant or other heavy industrial plant or factory maintenance experience.

  • Mechanical aptitude and sufficient experience to follow troubleshoot and repair instructions.

  • The ability to read, write, and understand English communications.

  • Proof of, and maintenance of, a valid Colorado Driver's License, or the ability to obtain a Colorado Driver's License if relocating from outside of Colorado.

  • Must be safety oriented and attend all mandatory safety training courses.

  • Training certificates for Emergency First Aid/CPR, Confined Space Entry, Transportation of Dangerous Goods, HAZWOPER Training, Forklift Operation certification, and Fall Protection are a plus.

  • Must be able to pass a medical evaluation and a respirator fit test.

Working Conditions

  • Work is performed at an EPA CERCLA site at an elevation of 10,200 feet, mostly within the water treatment plant building but includes exposure to extreme winter/summer weather conditions and wildlife.

  • Driving to/from work and sampling locations using company vehicles under all weather conditions.

  • Confined space entry and fall arrest equipment use is a requirement.

  • Requires lifting up to 70 pounds, sorting of materials, equipment and boxes and small pump repair.

  • Requires operation and interaction with general office computers and process control computers connected to programmable logic controllers used at the water treatment plant.

  • Hearing and vision sufficient to distinguish various pitches/colors of warning alarms.

  • Walking on rough, uneven, inclined or wet terrain for outdoor sampling/inspections and climbing stairs/ladders within the facility.

  • Wearing of personal protective equipment including hard hat, steel toe shoes, safety glasses, face shields, fall arrest harnesses and lanyards, respirators, earplugs or earmuffs, gloves or any other equipment to perform duties safely.

  • The individual may be exposed to environmental hazards while transferring or unloading chemicals at the water treatment plant or when completing repairs and maintenance on process piping or pumps and while investigating spills and collecting samples.

  • Position requires periodic business travel, via air and ground transportation, to domestic and international destinations.

  • The individual will be required to work an 8 hour per day 5 day per week schedule, perform after hour's plant checks, and timely response to after-hours emergency call-outs. Must be willing to work either day shift or swing shift. 5 day shift schedule may include weekends.

This is a rural, alpine area approximately two hours from the Denver metropolitan area. The mine is at an altitude of approximately 10,200 feet. In the winter, the average high temperature is 31 degrees and the average low is 3 degrees. In the summer, the average high temperature is 71 degrees and the average low is 38 degrees. The average snowfall in Lake/Chafee counties is in excess of 200 inches per year. Under moderate supervision, provide mining operation Geotechnical Engineering support related to design, construction, and operation of ore leach pads, tailings impoundments, storm water ponds, mining infrastructure foundations, etc. Serve as resource for Geotechnical information and analysis. * Lead Geotechnical instrumentation monitoring and data collection * Lead the operation Geotechnical data inventory effort * Lead regular Geotechnical inspections of active and inactive structures * Lead construction Quality Control (QC) and Quality Assurance (QA) activities for construction of tailings embankments, ore leach stockpiles, and/or Engineer-of-Record (EOR)'s QA activities as appropriate * Lead or supervise drilling and Geotechnical instrumentation installation by contractors and EOR * Lead the contract management and coordination with the EOR for ore leach pads, tailings storage facilities, storm water ponds, etc. to ensure regular review, tracking of all actions items, and to ensure compliance with recommendations of the EOR * Communicate accurate, timely and relevant Geotechnical information to operational management team and staff * Liaise with the FCX Corporate Tailings and Crushed Leach Stewardship Team by tracking all recommendations, ensuring compliance with those recommendations, and regular reporting * Liaise with the FMMC Corporate Tailings and Water Group to develop scopes of work, as required * Proactively seek improvements to the safe and Geotechnically stable construction and operation of ore leach pads, tailings storage facilities, storm water ponds, etc. * Assist with the development, maintenance and implementations of strategic plans to enhance the operation's slope stability program * Assist with the preparation of annual sustaining capital, operational budget and capital funding * May represent the site on company sponsored steering teams related to Geotechnical efforts * Perform other duties as assigned Minimum Qualifications * Bachelor's degree in Engineering from an accredited curriculum, with courses in Soil Mechanics and Foundation Engineering and three (3) years of experience in an applicable field of expertise, OR *
