Job Summary:

Under the direction of the Water Treatment Superintendent, assist in the operation and maintenance of the water treatment plant, pump stations, and water wells in order to produce safe drinking water within state and federal regulations.

Typical Duties:

  • Learns the operation and maintenance of the Surface Water Treatment Plant, pump stations, and wells.

  • Operates pumps, motors, various hand tools, and light equipment such as weed-eaters, chain saws, trash pumps, etc.

  • Reads flow meters and calculates flow rates.

  • Collects samples and assists in chemical feed rate adjustments.

  • Performs basic lab and process control analyses.

  • Comply with all state and federal guidelines pertaining to water production.

  • Keeps accurate and legible records of lab analyses, maintenance records, chemical dosage rates, etc.

  • Has schedule flexibility and proficiency to work after-hours on a rotating basis, if assigned. If assigned, coverage of these additional after-hours duties may be compensated for by additional overtime pay and/or compensatory time, according to the approved pay schedule for these assignments.

  • Complies with all safety SOP's (Standard Operating Procedures) including, but not limited to wearing issued safety equipment, following safety procedures, and refraining from handling situations which may pose an immediate danger.

  • Performs other tasks as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • High School Diploma or GED;

  • Must possess or obtain a class "D" water treatment certification per TCEQ regulations within one year;

  • Must have the ability to communicate effectively with co-workers and the public;

  • Must possess and maintain a State of Texas Class C driver's license and a safe driving record;

Work Environment:

This position involves both inside and outside environments. May be exposed to odors and fumes while working with chemicals. May be exposed to bacteria and electrical hazards. May be exposed to adverse/inclement weather conditions while working outside. Works around operating equipment. May work variable hours and/or weekends.

Physical Condition:

Must be able to bend, climb and squat to perform duties. Must be able to lift, push, pull and carry objects weighing up to 100 pounds. Must have dexterity with fingers and hands to operate hand tools and small equipment. Must be able to smell odors and fumes. Must maintain physical condition necessary for walking and standing for prolonged periods of time. Hearing and vision must be satisfactory to the degree that duties may be performed effectively and safely.

Miscellaneous Information

The City of Granbury offers a competitive salary depending on qualifications and experience. The city participates in the Texas Municipal Retirement System (TMRS) at a 7% employee deposit rate with a city matching ratio of 2:1. The city pays 100% of the employee's medical insurance and term life insurance. Full-time employees receive 40 hours of vacation at 6 months, then accrue each pay period based on the number of years employed up to 160 hours. 48 hours of Sick leave at 6 months, then accrue 3.70 hours each pay period. Full-time employees are eligible for 14 paid holidays upon hire. A full range of insurance benefits is also provided to full time employees.
