Edina Public Schools is currently hiring a part time Water Safety Instructor.
The purpose of being a Water Safety Instructor is to teach people how to swim and be safe in, on and around water. Using Red Cross WSI curriculum, instructors cover the knowledge and skills needed for aquatic skill development. This position is responsible for planning, organizing and providing quality swimming and water safety instruction.
Current Red Cross Lifeguard and Water Safety Instructor Certifications.
Current CPR/First Aid Certifications.
Must be 16 years old.
Preferred: Previous water safety instruction experience.
Must act and represent Edina Community Education in a positive and professional manner.
Maintain outstanding aquatic skills, proficiency and certifications.
Ability to communicate effectively with children and adults.
Ability to remain alert, attentive and responsible.
Attend regularly scheduled team meetings.
Maintain communication with other Aquatics Team members and your supervisors.
Maintain a professional appearance at all times. Swimsuits for females must be one piece and male must be trunk style.
Must be on time for shift and start and end classes on time.
Provide supervisor with intent to work information as requested. WSIs are not to sign up to teach classes that they would be absent from more than once during the session.
Arrange for a qualified substituted for any absence.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
Plans and organized personal class teaching outlines, methods, and goals that support the general teaching outlines provided by the American Red Cross Learn to Swim Program.
Ability to adapt your teaching approach to match the experience and abilities of participants.
Organized and directs activities of assigned students in order to provide a high level of quality instruction for all students.
Ensures that all participants are registered and on the class roster prior to entering the water.
Can learn participant's names and develop a meaningful connection to them during the session.
Establishes positive public relations with parents/guardians of participants by helping them understand swimming developments and achievements.
Resolves simple complaints in matters related to swimming instruction and refers other concerns to the supervisor.
Enforces pool safety standards and facility operational rules.
Helps organize and assist in the development of special programs, activities or instruction.
Completes and submits records and documentations of completed lessons to the Aquatics supervisor and the American Red Cross.
Works with the Aquatics Supervisor on an on-going basis to upgrade, improve and refine teaching effective swimming lessons.
Performs related duties as required.
Ability to react to emergency situation by quick movements, strenuous activity and on occasion assist or lift persons in distress of varying weights.
Required to remain alert to dangerous situations while sitting, standing or walking for various lengths of time.
Communicate effectively under loud and stressful situations including projecting voice across pool.
Be in water ranging from 80-90 degrees for several hours.
$15.57-$19.20/hour commensurate with experience
