Water Resources Summer Intern Position
VHBs Environmental Group in Bedford, NH is looking for a Summer Intern to assist our Water Resources Group with stormwater sampling, water quality monitoring and other field data collection efforts. Other technical tasks may include develop GIS maps, data management, preparing permit applications and report writing. This is a paid, full-time position on a temporary basis expected to extend to the end of August 2019 contingent on available work and with the possibility of an extension. This position would provide an opportunity to explore the aspects of environment consulting while possibly leading to a full-time position depending on work load at the end of the internship.
VHBs passionate professionals include engineers, scientists, planners, and designers that provide a full array of integrated water resources services for municipal, state and federal governmental agencies and private sector clients including:
Watershed / Water quality
Stormwater Management / Permitting
Ecological Restoration / Wetlands and Streams
Stormwater Treatment Design
Assist in water quality sampling and other field data collection using GPS mobile technology
Inspect and document features of storm drains, stormwater BMPs, natural stream channels and possibly erosion control measures
Coordinate with team members to manage and analyze field data within the geodatabase
Assist in developing GIS maps and other graphical data presentations of collected data.
Compile, analyze and interpret water quality data for internal review with the WR team.
Skills and Abilities
Excellent verbal, written and interpersonal communication skills
Understanding of basic stormwater treatment design and drainage concepts
Ability to use and calibrate water quality instruments in the field under various conditions.
Ability to utilize GPS equipment to locate sampling locations and record data in the field
Capable of coordinating sampling and field equipment for multiple sampling locations on a daily basis with assistance from other team members
0 - 2 years of experience in an engineering/water resource science environment
Enrolled in a Bachelor (B.S.) program or a recent graduate of a four-year college environmental engineering and/or other water resource science program
Prior experience with water quality field instruments as well as GPS data collection is preferred
GPS, GIS and CAD application experience are desired
Availability to work 40+ hours weekly throughout the summer period preferably starting sometime in May
