Overview / Responsibilities

Wood Environment & Infrastructure Solutions is seeking a Water Resources / Stream Design Engineer with Fish Passage experience to support our Puget Sound group.

Key Responsibilities

This position will report directly to a Principal Engineer and be responsible for development of concepts and through final design for designs that remove barriers to fish passage in the Pacific Northwest. Business development for government and private sector clients including identification of prospects, pursuit strategy, proposal development and marketing activities primarily associated with site civil projects. This position's key responsibility will be providing technical direction and working in a team environment to satisfy WSDOT, WDFW, other state and federal agency, and tribal requirements as well as local requirements for site restoration. Other responsibilities include:

  • Participating in local, regional and national civil engineering related organizations

  • Serving as subject matter technical expert on specific tasks or projects

  • Compiling and presenting results of planning and engineering studies

  • Preparing and reviewing interim and completed project reports

  • Conveying project results and findings by means of oral discussions, presentations and project documentation

Skills / Qualifications

  • Bachelor of Science in Civil Engineering or other directly related field, and a Master's Degree

  • Licensed Professional Engineer registration in the state of WA

  • Has completed a minimum of one successful fish passage projects in Washington in the last year and four successful fish passage projects in Washington in the last five years, using the WDFW Stream Simulation or Bridge Design Methodologies, includes stream restoration components, involved WSDOT-type roadways, and has remained fish passable without modification.)

  • 10+ years related environmental experience

  • Recent experience completing Fish Passage Culvert Replacements in Western Washington

  • Design experience with fish passable structures, culvert design, stream grading, natural habitat features, stream or river embankment stabilization, floodplain analysis, zero rise analysis, scour analysis, and backwater analysis

  • Experience with hydraulic modeling for stream channels and geomorphology

  • Previous consulting experience required. Ready portfolio of clients desired

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills

  • Ability to work with, mentor and direct staff level engineers and technicians

  • Exhibit ability to track and meet budgets and schedules
