The City of Sugar Land is seeking a full-time Water Resource Manager in the Public Works Department .

  • Manage compliance with the City's subsidence district requirements through implementation of the Integrated Water Resource Plan.  Coordination with City's Engineering and Planning departments on shared water resource and planning projects.

  • Serve as the City's liaison with other local and regional water entities, including regional planning groups, regulating agencies, and local interest groups and stakeholders including: Region H, Fort Bend Subsidence District (FBSD), Brazos River Authority (BRA), Gulf Coast Water Authority (GCWA), TCEQ and Texas Water Development Board.  This duty involves travel and attending relevant meetings and hearings, as well as fostering relationships between the City and other regional and local entities.

  • Oversee the City's Groundwater Reduction Plan program including monthly and annual reporting and permit applications.

The ideal candidate must be extremely organized and able to manage the logistics of multiple duties with professionalism and strong communication skills. In addition, they will have a strong attention to detail and ability to work in a fast-paced environment-both critical for success in the role, as are high levels of accuracy, timeliness and dependability. Ideal candidates will also look for innovative, trailblazing solutions to challenges  We are looking for someone who can establish and maintain effective working relationships within the organization and work effectively with all levels of employees and management.

Education and Experience:

  • A Bachelor's degree in engineering, environmental science, water resource planning, business administration, Public Administration, or a related field from an accredited school or university.

  • Minimum of three years of progressively responsible experience in a water-related discipline such as water resources planning, water and wastewater utilities, natural resources, environmental engineering, or the like. Municipal government experience is a plus.

  • Additional relevant work experience resulting in acceptable proficiency levels in the above knowledge; skills and education requirements may be substituted in lieu of specific education requirements.

Training (License and/or Certification):

  • Valid Texas Class "C" Driver License
