Compensation:

  • Annual Salary Range: $40,000 to $60,000 per year

  • Hourly Pay Range: $19.23 to $28.85 per year

  • Salary can vary depending upon education, experience, or qualifications.

Location: KDA Headquarters - Manhattan, KS.

Position Summary & Responsibilities:

Provides daily coordination, oversight and implementation of divisional programs and assistance in management of multiple sub-programs relating to soil and water conservation. Core responsibilities consist of managing allocations to conservation districts and NGOs to benefit landowners under the Non-Point Source Pollution Control Program and Water Resources Cost-Share Program.

Also implements funding resources under the Kansas Sediment & Nutrient Reduction and Riparian & Wetland Protection programs.

Provides direct project support for implementation of the division's High Plains Aquifer RCPP project and other federal grants & agreements. Provides instructions and guidance to county conservation district staff involved in the implementation of state funded programs and for ongoing coordination with other local, state and federal agencies.

This position has the opportunity to telework per guidelines of the Telework Policy of the Kansas Department of Agriculture KDA after one year of service.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Ability to establish and maintain working relationships with diverse groups of partners (e.g. state agencies, federal agencies and other non-governmental operating groups).

  • Must have good public speaking, written and verbal communication skills.

  • Excellent organizational skills with knowledge and proficiency in Microsoft Excel.

  • Must be able to conduct field evaluations which involves traversing steep grades and carrying equipment in various climatic conditions.

  • Ability to travel for short periods, including overnight may be required.

  • Employee must have a valid Class C (or higher) Kansas driver's license or equivalent license from another state. Employee is responsible to maintain an acceptable driving record to safely drive state vehicle and be willing and able to fulfill all job-related travel normally associated with this position.

Preferred Requirements (Not Required):

  • Bachelor's degree in natural resource management, agriculture or related field preferred.

  • Experience with water resources riparian / wetland issues preferred.

  • Knowledge of Kansas water law and water rights preferred.
