Summary

Develops, plans, conducts and evaluates water and waste water programs for education. Informs the public of water related issues, promotes water conversation and water resources. Coordinates internal and external public relations by creating varied medias, including graphic design, photography and written material.

Essential Functions

  • Collaborate with various groups such as teachers, neighborhood associations, civic groups and businesses to ascertain education support needs. Compile, prepare, and make available lesson plans, customer bags, and information for public education in a variety of media formats;

  • Assist in creating the annual water quality report, other required reports, and public presentations in a variety of media;

  • Compile water use and conservation datafor various reports;

  • Assist supervisor in developing and conducting programs to educate the community on water and wastewater related issues including water conservation;

  • Monitor effectiveness and revise information on an annual basis or as changes occur;

  • Maintain and update the Water department website, and other social media accounts;

  • Coordinate and implement water conservation programs;

  • Perform related duties as required.

Qualifications

Completion of a bachelor degree in electronic media, marketing/communications, public relations, or other related fields with an additional one to three years of experience in communications, public relations, marketing and media, or any combination of relevant education and experience which provides the following:

Knowledge and Abilities

Knowledge of:

  • Program development, implementation, and evaluation;

  • Event coordination and planning;

  • Social Media and Website Management;

  • Content Creation, Graphic and print design layout, and Marketing/Promotions of events;

  • Produce internal and external material from initial design stages to completions, including design, layout, writing content, taking photographs and creating graphics;

  • Wide Range of media and design software (such as: Adobe, InDesign, Illustrator, Photoshop, and Acrobat)

  • Budget and report preparation.

Ability to:

  • Independently organize and develop education and conservation programs;

  • Communicate effectively orally and in writing with both adults and children;

  • Establish and maintain effective working relationships with the public, other departments, teachers, and various community agencies and organizations;

  • Design flowerbeds using drought tolerant plant material;

  • Manage multiple projects and meet deadlines;

  • Organize, analyze, and interpret data for reporting;

  • Produce creative and appealing presentational material;

Physical Requirements:

  • Occasionally lift up to 25 pounds.

  • Occasionally carry up to 25 pounds.

  • Frequently stand and walk during the shift.

  • Occasionally flex upper trunk forward at the waist and partially flex at the knees.

  • Occasionally rotate upper trunk to the right or left while sitting or standing.

  • Frequently rotate wrist and grasp items;

  • Place arms above, at, or below shoulder height.
