Requirements / Qualifications

Water Polo Boys Varsity Head Coach position currently being offered at American Canyon High School. Candidates should be experienced in the sport, have coaching experience and a resume of working with student-athletes at the high school level.

American Canyon High School desires to select a coach who is committed to developing young Athletes both on and off the field. Applicants will be required to obtain First Aid/CPR, NFHS Fundamentals of Coaching, NFHS Sudden Cardiac Arrest, NFHS Concussion in Sports and NFHS Heat and Illness prevention, as well as all other Napa Valley Unified School District Human Resources required documents. The season begins in August and runs through October, however some off-season activities are expected.

The coach receives a district stipend at the end of the season. Duties include developing non-league schedule, conducting daily practice, managing equipment, traveling with team to away games, developing positive relationships with parents and players, attending league meetings, and planning end-of-season awards & recognition event. Must have basic knowledge of the following: 1) Character-building aspects of sports, including techniques and methods of teaching and reinforcing the core values comprising sportsmanship and good character; 2) Knowledge of physical capacities and limitations of the age group coached; 3) Coaching principles related to educational philosophy, adolescent; psychology, nutrition, risk management and the rules and strategies of the sport; 4) Oversight and responsibility of the entire Water Polo Boys program (all levels).
