Position Description

The Water Exercise Instructor is responsible for teaching water exercise classes.

Qualifications

  • At least 18 years of age

  • Knowledgeable in the principles and practices of successful water exercise instruction;

  • Ability to work and interact with a diverse group of people;

  • Current CPR certification;

  • Strong character values;

  • Excellent communication skills;

  • Previous experience facilitating water exercise classes, preferred

Responsibilities

  • Create a welcoming environment in all YMCA program areas, taking time to talk to members and enthusiastically greet them by name with a smile and eye contact.

  • Use approved water exercise instruction techniques at all times.

  • Begin and end all classes punctually.

  • Proactively connect and monitor members to develop and support the achievement of their goals for healthy living, and matching members' interests to YMCA programs.

  • Convey a professional attitude at all times.

  • Be courteous and knowledgeable.

  • Create a safe environment by being aware of your surroundings and monitoring members to ensure they are performing exercises correctly; explain/demonstrate proper form to members when necessary.

  • Responsible for building small communities by facilitating connections with and between members.

  • Assist Members with their questions and monitor activity in the fitness area.

  • Respond promptly and courteously to all member complaints, compliments and inquiries while following the appropriate procedures at all times.

  • Actively interact with members regarding their participation in YMCA programs, Annual Support Campaign and Special Events.

  • Model and enforce Code of Conduct, Healthy Living Policies, and administrate member issues as they arise. Positively interpret these policies to members.

Position Description Under the supervision of the Director of Sports-Recreation & Sports Coordinator, the Gymnastics Instructor will provide and lead our guided instruction in the areas of gymnastics, tumbling and dance movement for ages 3 to 14 years. Classes occur on Tuesday and Thursday afternoons, and candidates must have this availability to be considered. This position requires you to have experience teaching and leading children, and the ability to develop or implement classes that are age appropriate. In addition to individual class instruction, it is necessary to be able to lead class participants - and for the instructor to foster a positive class environment that is safe and fun. Qualifications * High school diploma or equivalent * Program Knowledge of age-appropriate motor development skills, proper and safe progression of gymnastic skills, rules, format, etc., * Minimum of one (1) year experience teaching gymnastics to children. * Strong character values (respect, responsibility, honesty, caring); strong communication skills; emotional maturity * Current approved EMSA First Aid; Adult, Infant and Child CPR Certifications (8 hours). Completion of child abuse prevention training prior to first day in program. Responsibilities * Create classes that are interactive, safe and age appropriate. * Organize instructional space and clean instructional area after class. * Preplan class sessions. * Be able to identify hazardous or at risk situations and report them to supervisor. * Maintain a professional image and work harmoniously with staff and members. * Attend meetings and trainings as required. * Create opportunities and get members involved as co-producers of their Y experience * Help members become educated on the philanthropic work of the Y.
