Wastewater/Storm Water System Mechanic I

The City of Georgetown is now accepting applications for the position of Wastewater/Storm Water System Mechanic II.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS

• Cleans line blockages with the Vactor truck.

• Installs and repairs pipe lines.

• Maintains storm catch basins by removing debris.

• Digs ditches for water flow.

• Clears drainage ditches of vegetation as needed.

• Performs traffic control duties.

• Performs rain detail which includes blocking off flooded streets and running pumps to clear water from streets.

• Hauls leaves to and from job site and landfill by using dump truck.

• Cuts road boxes and pipes curbing to access or repair problems.

• Receives and/or reviews various records and reports including back-up locations, flooding, cave in locations and customer complaints.

• Prepares and/or generates a variety of documents including equipment problem papers, time sheets and overtime sheets.

• Interacts and communicates with various groups and individuals such as supervisors, land owners, customers and crew leaders.

• Operates a variety of machinery and equipment such as Vactor trucks, backhoes, dump trucks, bobcats and sweepers.

• Utilizes a variety of tools and/or sets of tools to include shovels, rakes, hoes, saws and axes.

ESSENTIAL SAFETY FUNCTIONS

It is the responsibility of each employee to comply with established policies, procedures and safe work practices. Each employee must follow safety training and instructions provided by their supervisor. Each employee must also properly wear and maintain all personal protective equipment required for their job. Finally, each employee must immediately report any unsafe work practices or unsafe conditions as well as any on-the-job injury or illnesses.

ADDITIONAL JOB FUNCTIONS

Moves furniture.

Cleans buildings by mopping, cleaning bathrooms and hallways.

Cuts grass.

Performs other related duties as required.

Physical Requirements: Must be physically able to operate a variety of heavy machines and equipment. Must be able to push, lift, pull, reach, crouch, carry or otherwise move objects. Sedentary work involves sitting most of the time, but may involve walking or standing for periods of time. Must be able to lift/carry weights of up to 100 pounds.
