The City of LagunaBeach is looking for a passionate and knowledgeable professional to fill our position of Wastewater Utility Worker I! As the Wastewater Utility Worker I, you will perform routine construction, maintenance, operation, and repair tasks related to the City's wastewater collection systems and equipment.

Responsibilities include cleaning sewer lines and lift stations, installing, modifying, maintaining, and repairing sewer facilities and equipment. You will operate various motorized equipment and vehicles, conduct inspections, and perform necessary repairs to ensure the integrity of sewer systems, adhering to safety protocols and regulations. Additionally, you will respond to emergency calls, take appropriate safety measures, and carry out related duties as assigned.

Qualifications

Any combination of education and experience demonstrating the ability to effectively and successfully perform the duties of the position is considered qualifying. A typical combination is as follows:

Education: HighSchoolDiplomaor GEDequivalentisrequired.

Experience: Wastewater Utility Worker I-Two(2)years of general maintenance or repair work.Experience intherepair of municipal sewer system experience is highly desirable.

License/CertificateRequirements:

Due to the performance of field duties that may include the operation of both City commercial and non-commercial vehicles, an applicant must possess a valid California Class C Driver's License and an acceptable driving record at time of hire. AClass Aor B Driver's License is required within 12months of appointment for Wastewater Utility Worker I.

Special Requirements:

Positions inthis series may receive calls for emergency service and may be required to respond during non-scheduled work hours, including evenings, holidays, and weekends. Please refer to the Municipal Employees' Association Memorandum Of Understanding for details on the Emergency Standby Response Program.

DOTCompliance

In compliancewith the Departmentof Transportation(DOT) regulationsand the City'spolicyon randomtestingfor controlled substances and alcohol for commercially licensed drivers, candidates for this position who are commercially licensed are required to pass a drug test prior to placementinthe position. Allemployeesworking in this position, who are subjecttomaintaininga commercialdriver's license for the performanceof duties, will be enrolled as participantsin the City's Random Testing Program for Controlled Substances and Alcohol.

Physical,MentalandEnvironmentalWorking Conditions:

Workisperformedin variousenvironmentalconditions,with exposuretooutdoortemperatureandweathervariations, traffic andequipment noise,vibrations, fumes,grease, machinery andmoving parts, odors,dust,chemicals such as cleaning solvents, and raw sewage. Ability to lift up to 50 pounds, or more than 50 pounds, with assistance; sit,stand, squat, kneel, climb stairs, stoop, and walkforprolongedperiods; and getfrom onelocation toanotherin the courseof doing business.

Additionally, the position requires near and far vision in reading work-related documents and using the computer, and acute hearing is required when providing phone and personal service. An employee generally works outdoors. The employee will travel todifferentlocationsand be exposed to inclementweatherconditions, noise, vibration, dust, or potentiallyhazardous

chemicals.The noise level inthe work environment is usually moderate to high,and the employee may occasionallybe exposed to loud talking and interruptionsfrom telephonesand/or members of the public. The nature of the work also requires incumbentstodrive motorized vehicles and work in heavy vehicle traffic conditions.
