As a Wastewater Project Manager in our Herndon, VA office, you will have the chance to work with the #1 ranked water treatment engineering firm in the world in 2017, serving municipal wastewater and water-related clients in and around Herndon, VA. Working with other members of our team, you'll direct communications with clients on technical design topics and project schedule/budget/scope; lead project teams and communicate between diverse design disciplines; develop, staff, and coordinate effective quality management processes for each project; establishing long-term client relationships and support business development activities. The minimum qualifications for this position are:

  • Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering or a related engineering discipline

  • Licensed professional engineer (PE)

  • At least 6 years of experience delivering water treatment and wastewater projects for municipalities

The ideal candidate will possess the following skills and experience:

  • A Master's degree in Civil Engineering, or a related engineering discipline

  • Experience in serving various clients involving a wide variety of fields including wastewater / water treatment for planning, consulting, design and construction services

This position includes a variety of engineering work in the planning, design, and construction phases of primarily water- and wastewater-related public works projects. Occasional work on other types of infrastructure projects should also be expected. This position is focused on analyzing engineering problems and producing engineered solutions through calculations and detailing resulting in plans and specifications for construction. Essential Duties & Responsibilities * Under supervision of a Senior Structural Engineer or a Project Manager, evaluates, selects, and applies standard engineering techniques, procedures, and criteria * Assist in the preparation of technical documents and reports, and perform structural analyses and calculations using industry software; such as MathCAD, STAAD, RAM, Visual Analysis, etc. * Read, interpret and apply codes and standards to structural design; such as ASTM, IBC, ACI, AISC, etc. * Development of structural drawings and specifications and coordination with other disciplines. Ability to communicate and coordinate with multi-discipline teams is essential * Perform structural analysis and design for new facilities or for renovation of existing facilities * Perform site visits and inspections and review shop drawings * Develop structural sketches and respond to contractor requests for information (RFIs) * Provide technical input in developing proposals * Work will include multiple projects and task assignments for various municipalities primarily in the Washington, D.C., metropolitan region but supporting other clients and geographies as needed * Good oral and written communications, strong data analysis & technical problem solving, strong organizational skills, multitasking ability, excellent computer skills and team-oriented work practices #BIA * Bachelor of Science in Civil Engineering is required * At least 3 years of relevant experience is required * Professional Engineer License (PE) required (VA license or ability to obtain within 6 months of start of employment) * Strong background in structural steel and reinforced concrete design preferred * Experience in retrofit of existing facilities preferred * Knowledge of construction drawing standards * Understanding related regulatory and/or industry requirements and practices is required. * Competent in using building codes and understanding of ACI and AISC provisions * Proficiency in using STAAD, SAP, or RAM Steel to analyze building structures preferred * Proficiency in using and developing MathCad and/or Excel spreadsheets to perform structural calculations preferred * Competent in using AutoCAD and Microstation preferred At Jacobs, we help prepare people for new opportunities and challenges.
