Eligible lists may be used for temporary and permanent vacancies for the class of work during the life of the eligible list. Temporary positions may lead to conversion to permanent employment.
Receives training and performs as an assistant in a trainee capacity to higher level operators in the operation, maintenance and repair of wastewater plant and tributary pumping plants, equipment and processes; and performs other related duties as required.
Minimum Qualification Requirements

Overall paid or unpaid experience must be of such scope and responsibility as to conclusively demonstrate that you have the ability to perform the duties of the position.
Note: Calculation of experience is based on full-time, 40-hour work weeks.
Part-time experience must be pro-rated. Example: Twelve months of experience at 20 hours per week is equivalent to six months of experience. In addition, hours worked in excess of 40 hours per week will not be credited. Example: Twelve months of experience at 60 hours per week is equivalent to one year, not one and one-half years.
Training and Experience: A combination of education and experience substantially equivalent to graduation from high school preferably with course work in chemistry or biology, supplemented by some mechanical and groundskeeping work experience.
License Requirement: Possession of a valid motor vehicle operator's license as applicable to the position.
Knowledge of: basic hand and power tools and their use; servicing requirements of mechanical equipment; fundamental mechanical concepts; hazards and safety practices involved in working around high voltage equipment and moving machinery.
Ability to: learn the operation, maintenance and repair of wastewater plant equipment such as pumps, motors, clarifiers, mixers, digesters, aerators, valves, meters, gauges, etc.; read meters and gauges, record readings, and maintain operating records; read and comprehend written materials; use hand and power tools; understand and follow oral and written instructions; work harmoniously with others; handle weights and loads.
Special Working Conditions: Exposure to hazards, unpleasant and obnoxious conditions; may also be subject to shift, weekend and holiday work as required.

Please note written exams are held ONLY on Kaua'i. We do NOT conduct testing in other jurisdictions.
