The Wastewater Maintenance Technician I / II will handle skilled maintenance and repair of wastewater equipment, including pumps, motors, valves, electrical control panels, and chemical feed equipment. The role involves collaboration with others in tasks like installation, modification, preventive maintenance, and repair of wastewater facilities. This is a safety-sensitive and/or DOT position. Therefore, participation in random drug testing at the city will be mandatory.The intent of this job description is to provide a representative summary of the major duties and responsibilities performed by employees in this job. Employees may be requested to perform job-related tasks other than those specifically presented in this description.

Wastewater Maintenance Technician I

  • Repair electrical systems, pumps, motors, valves, and piping.

  • Conduct preventive maintenance on pumps, motors, and electrical components.

  • Install PVC service lines, replace motor lubrication lines, and work on chlorine system lines.

  • Troubleshoot and maintain electrical controls; replace fuses, switches, and receptacles.

  • Assist in installing, testing, and calibrating meters.

  • Schedule projects, log work orders, and procure parts and equipment.

  • Clean and maintain tools and equipment.

  • Subject to on-call rotation for after-hours and weekend availability, including overtime as needed.

  • Perform other related tasks as assigned.

Wastewater Maintenance Technician II

  • Performs all duties of the Wastewater Maintenance Technician I

  • Capable of working under limited or moderate supervision while performing complex tasks.

  • Must pass all proficiency requirements.

Must be able to provide services for the benefit of the general public during emergency situations that threaten the safety of League City's citizens, and that, City employees must be able to work immediately before, during, or immediately after an emergency.Required

  • High School diploma or General Education Degree (GED).

  • Valid Driver's License.

Wastewater Maintenance Technician I

Must meet all required minimum qualifications in addition to the following:

  • Must have or be able to obtain a Class "D" Wastewater Operator License or Class I Wastewater Collections within 18 months of employment.

  • Minimum one year of experience in industrial/commercial mechanical and electrical maintenance.

Wastewater Maintenance Technician II

Must meet all required minimum qualifications in addition to the following:

  • Class "C" Wastewater Operator License or Class II Wastewater Collections

  • Must be able to obtain Class "D" Water license within 18 months of employment.

  • Minimum two years of experience in industrial/commercial mechanical and electrical maintenance.

Equivalent combinations of education, training, and experience that offer the necessary knowledge, skills, and abilities for this position may be substituted or assessed at the City's discretion.Knowledge of:

  • English grammar, spelling, punctuation.

  • Mechanics, electronics, motors, generators, and pump operations.

  • Water facilities and preventive maintenance standards.

  • National Fire Protection Association 70 - Electrical.

  • Meter testing and calibration techniques.

  • Bending conduit, hand tools, and electrical testing equipment.

  • Basic plumbing and electrical techniques.

  • Basic welding

Skill in:

  • Interpersonal skills for effective relationship development.

  • Adaptability to perform a variety of tasks of different nature.

  • Maintenance skills for pumps, motors, electrical panels, generators, and automatic valves.

Ability to:

  • Meet schedules and deadlines.

  • Understand and follow oral and written directions.

  • Troubleshoot electrical, mechanical, and plumbing problems to determine issues and solutions.

  • Maintain confidentiality of information and professional boundaries.

Additionally, it necessitates fine dexterity and acute awareness of surroundings, utilizing senses of vision, hearing, and verbal communication.

Employees will work in adverse weather conditions such as high temperatures, humidity, prolonged sun exposure, rain, and sleet. Work may also involve contact with chemicals, fumes, dust, insects, noxious plants, snakes, and other wildlife.
