Description
The Wastewater Collections Foreman plays a key role in overseeing the operation, maintenance, inspection, and repair of the City's wastewater collections system. This position involves leading a team to ensure the efficient and effective management of gravity sewers, force mains, manholes, lift stations, generators, and the SCADA system. The Supervisor also coordinates fieldwork activities, schedules inspections, and contributes to the development of asset management programs.
Essential Job Duties:

Maintain a positive and productive environment, ensuring compliance with the policies, procedures, goals, and objectives of the City, Department, and Division.
Supervise employees to contribute to the achievement of departmental and organizational goals, assigning, overseeing, and organizing work as appropriate, and leading the day-to-day activities under the guidance and oversight of a manager.
Lead work in the field, including scheduling, supervision, operation, inspection, maintenance, and repair of equipment and services.
Plan, schedule, oversee, and perform grease trap and sewer lateral inspections, sewer jetting, inspections, and repairs for the reduction of potential inflow and infiltration in the sanitary systems, and the development and updating of GIS maps and asset management programs.
This position will remain open until 11:59 on 03/31/2024.
Qualifications
Job Qualifications Education, experience, and training that are required or desirable in order to effectively perform the job at the time of hire. An equivalent combination of education, training, and experience will be considered. Additional requirements and/or substitutions may be requested and require the approval of HR.
Minimum of 5 years of progressively responsible experience in the operation and maintenance of wastewater systems required.
Relevant certifications and/or licenses, vocational or technical program completion, and/or completion of an apprenticeship program are advantageous.
Valid drivers license is required
Certification preferred, or the ability to obtain within 180 days of employment required:
Class A CDL with airbrake and tanker endorsements
Certification DNR Class B Wastewater Treatment
Certification Hazardous Spill Response
Certification Work Zone Safety
MWEA Wastewater Collections B License and/or other relevant certification such as electrical, welding, plumbing, or pipefitting is preferred.
Prior supervisory experience preferred.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities May be representative, but not all-inclusive, of those knowledge, skills, and abilities commonly associated with this position.
Thorough understanding of the functions of the wastewater collections systems, related state and federal regulations, lift station equipment, and sewer line maintenance and repairs.
Ability to lead a team and to manage the day-to-day activities of a team, department, or shift.
Ability to make quality on-the-spot decisions based on prior guidance and experience that impact the team and the direction of project work.
Proficiency in use of basic business software (word processing, spreadsheets, email, presentations) and basic office equipment.
Ability to provide exceptional service to internal and external customers.
Ability to communicate effectively and professionally with supervisors, co-workers, and customers by telephone, in writing, and in person.
Ability to use good judgment and think rationally in difficult or stressful situations.
Ability to develop goals and plans to prioritize, organize, and accomplish work, as well as concentrate on multiple tasks simultaneously.
